You must be tethered to a wireless LAN to do the you tube stuff
You must subscribe to iTunes monthly for the phone to be active
You must ship the phone back to apple if the battery dies... User cannot replace it.
No wired headset jack
You cannot add memory to the phone
You cannot add your own personal mp3s to the phone... Itunes only
No instant messenger software
No VPN or corporate mail like most PDAs
Camera takes stills only, no video
No picture messaging... you can take pics but you cannot send them via MMS lol
No over the air music downloads, again tethered to iTunes
Google maps just gives you a map, no gps or gps via bluetooth support
Insurance not available for this phone
loudspeaker is mono only
no USB for downloading
no using the iFlop as an external HD
No editing or creating office files, just view them
Not even one game on the thing
You cannot save email attachments to view later
EDGE only - NO 3G!
Now the SIM card debacle! LOL Damned Slackintosh!
Ok, I own one, havent modded it or anything, so I need to correct you a bit here
1. Youtube works either over EDGE or WLAN. However if you use EDGE it uses a crappier codec to speed the download up, so it doesnt look as good. Over WLAN it runs great, obviously.
2. I dont know what you mean by subscribe. You do need to have an Itunes acct, but there is no monthly charge. If you buy songs obviously there is.
3. Yes, if the battery goes, it gets shipped back. Luckily hasnt happened to me yet. I havent heard much in the way of battery nightmares.
4. The phone has a stereo headset jack on top. The earbuds it comes with have a built in microphone as well so you can use them to answer calls as well as listen to music. This might be about the best thing for phone calls while driving ever - the call comes in stereo, (well, mono over both sides) so you get ultra-clear reception. The mic works well.
5. No, you cant add memory. 8gb has been more then enough for me.
6. You can ABSOLUTELY add your own mp3s to the phone. It works just like an ipod. I wouldnt have gotten it otherwise. Just drag them into itunes. Very easy.
7. There is instant messanger software you can use using safari. Which isnt too good right now. When they release the SDK in feb I'm hoping for a good downloadable client.
8. There is a way to set the email up for different accounts and I'm pretty sure there is the option to connect to a vpn as well. Just havent tried it yet. It works seamlessly with my gmail account.
9. Yes, no video capture ability. I miss this too.
10. MMS picture mail is possible but its strange.. you have to email the pic to the other persons cell #. Another feature im waiting for the SDK to fix.
11. No, you cant wirelessly update it. Not sure what kind of feature you're looking for. I guess itd be nice but connecting it to usb to update isnt so bad.
12. No gps function. However there is an addon you can purchase that adds something using cell tower triangulation. I wouldnt even bother with that. The google maps function is very useful as it is. I was once driving back from foxwoods and my friend used the phone to find all golf stores along the highway so we could buy new drivers. Pretty sweet. I guess if you're a moron and can't figure out with just a map where you are then the gps built in would be nice.
13. There is some form of apple insurance they offered me but it sounded like a gimmick. I guess I dont worry about it too much.
14. Yes the speaker is mono. Its pretty basic. However, this is the size of a wallet. Its not a boombox.
15/16. There is a usb connection to the computer using the standard ipod cable. Not sure again what you're looking for. Not sure if theyve added the support to use the phone as a removable hard drive but I guess thats coming if it hasnt yet.
17. Yea you cant edit office files. But it can view them nicely, and it also have native PDF support too. I wouldn't want to be doing that kind of work on a phone to begin with.
18. The games are on apples website using the safari program. Not great for now, another thing Im waiting on the sdk for.
19. Since there isnt much of a file structure no you cant save email attachments. Tho I think that if theyre in your email acct they stay locally. Not sure to be honest.
20. EDGE sucks, but its not terrible. I might sell mine to get the 3G one next summer or whenever it comes out.
MrNoName it sounds like you might not understand what the iPhone is. Its not a business device. They dont market it for that type of user. Its great for the casual person like myself. Obviously you didn't spend enough time with the device as you don't even seem to know what the features are.
Which is fine, because everyone is entitled to their opinions. I'm more then happy with mine.
