SS11 of VMF-122. Most unusual markings for a Corsair.

Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Should it be metalic or grey the way you have it skinned?  The text seems to say it should be metalic, although I'm by no means an authority on these issues.

A metal hog would be sweet.

Most of them are. ;) I liked how different this one looked.

The main problem with the F4Us is that the only real difference between the skins is the variation in just how dirty and beat-up they look, since the USN/MC didn't allow decoration to the extent that the USAAF did. There's a few out there with nose-art that's a bit interesting, tho.

The text says it was painted "Aircraft Aluminum".

Probably something similar to the lacquer used in pre-war USN fighters. The color I have probably does need some adjustment, tho.

Exactly.  But what would that really look like?  Kind of how the P51's wings are painted?   If so, Fester's Big Beautiful Doll P51 skin would be the standard for "aircraft aluminum."

I agree with Stang here.  While it wouldn't have a "POW" type glare of some BMF skins, I think the specularity needs to come up a good deal.  Further, the overall finish has a bit of a blue hue that I think needs to go away.

There's a P-51 based in Carson City, and the owner painted the entire plane in an aluminum metalic paint job (I'm assuming for corrosion prevention purposes just like this one was) and until you get up close, it merely looks like a very consistent BMF.  Not a polished aluminum finish, but certainly not quite as flat as what you're showing in the screen shot.

My two cents,

Just remember it's my first metallic skin finish. ;)

OK...Looks from the picture that the paint has a specular nature...Its reflecting some light.
