I have this on going problem.

Every Friday evening between 7:30 and 7:50 our phone rings and somehow it interferes with the internet connection, and eventually I get discoed.  I get the UDP message generally first.

If the computer is off, there is no phone call.  When you answer there is nothing there, and generally you have to hang up.  Strange thing is that over the holidays it happened once in the middle of the day too.

I have called AT&T and attempted to get them to help out and got the run around.

Any suggestions on what this is and how I handle it?

Sorry to ask here but I really want to know what this is.

Skuzzy has a 'Trouble-Slip' or something like that filed with them.
AT&T sucks right now and are doing more with less and it can't handle it.

It almost sounds like you have DSL and the filter/splitter for the analog sgnal and the digital signal is either missing or going bad.  It is a passive filer, which should never go bad, but I suppose anything is possible.

It is just this one phone call too, all other calls have no effect.

What are the chances it is someone trying to hack into my system?  My firewall reports no attempts, but ...
