Thought of you SAPPers the other day. Saw a 1946 movie called "A Walk in the Sun" about a couple platoons in Italy tasked with solo penetration and destruction of a bridge. Directed by the same guy who did "All's Quiet on the Western Front," it was nicely put together, even if it did show its age in spots.
The guys got off the beach, but ended up killing time waiting for the command sructure to get the lead out so they could get started. Then the Leather Leiderhosen dudes showed up, and some 109s strafed the beach a few times...until they were chased off by some welcome 38s. Nice flyby shots, apparently from actual footage rather than reenactments.
