Anyone know what the name of a tank's main gun external sound is?  Like planes' M2.wav.

Believe it or not, it's called 'tankgun.wav'

I believe!

edit - I believe that I've tried that before and it didn't work as I intended.  What I'm looking for isn't one sound that'll play for any tank gun's fire sound, but a unique sound to each tank's turret as heard from any other vehicle.  The same way we have individual external sounds for each GV engine now.

Either tankgun.wav isn't it, or I have done something terribly wrong.

Yeah, I get what you're saying.  One of the updates (a year ago or so) suddenly made it so there are actually different GV sounds for your own vs other GV in the area.  Now you need veng.wav and gveng.wav, for instance, to hear unique engine sounds when listening to other gv's.  I can't remember which is which (am too lazy to go check it all out again).  I think the tankgun sound does not requre anything unique but that it be in the appropriate gv folder if it is different than the default one placed in the root of the sounds folder.  If there actually is a different one for 'other' gv's... I don't know what it would be callled.

In the GLOBAL section of SOUNDS folder is tankgun.wav .

Each tank model is searching for THIS file for GUN FIRE sound.

Any differences in each tank gun sound would be driven by the tank model itself (coded by HiTech).

The file tankgun.wav can be edited or changed but is the SAME file ALL tanks are looking for to USE the sound.

So what I am saying is....ALL TANKS use the same wav file for guns in tanks. It is NOT possible at this time to separate each to its OWN gun sound....sorry.

Also Moot, the M2.wav is only the primary gun sound ie; 30cal, 303, 7.9mm, 50cal. Cannons are secondary and use their own specific wav file, 20mm, 30mm, 40mm etc.....Tic

Actually, M2 is the filename for .50cal sounds, while 30cal is the filename for .30, .303, 7.62, 7.92, and such.

I stand corrected on this. Fruda
