Family seeks community's help to save son

Patrick Mancuso, an eighth-grade student at Eastern Hills Middle School has been diagnosed with acute myleloid leukemia (AML). Without treatment, Patrick may only have weeks to live.

The 14-year-old son of a 1st Infantry Division soldier is suffering from an aggressive form of leukemia, and the family is asking all prospective bone marrow donors to complete a simple test at the Robertson Blood Center on Fort Hood to see if they may be a match.

Patrick Mancuso, an eighth-grade student at Eastern Hills Middle School, has been diagnosed with acute myleloid leukemia (AML). Without treatment, Patrick may only have weeks to live, stated a news release from Robertson Blood Center.

Those wishing to help Patrick with a military connection (including contracted employees) can visit the Robertson Blood Center between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. starting Monday, Jan. 28.

Those wishing to donate without a military connection can call Scott & White at 1-888-724-2811 for its bone marrow donation program.

Txmom, what about the national bone marrow donors list? No matches found?

I don't know. I've been involved with some of the stuff this particular blood collection center (here at Ft. Hood) has done in the past, so I was just paying attention to some of what they're doing right now for this family, but don't know how much they've been able to find out about matches from the national bone marrow donor list.

The boy is one that my son played against in their school football games this past school year ~ and I've got a real spot for our soldier's & their families here, so it grabbed my attention.

I can't imagine what it must be like to get a notice like that from the doctor about one of your kids.

*edit* I still haven't seen an update on the newspage which originally posted the article either.
