Home built - need help with connectors
« on: January 28, 2008, 05:29:41 PM »
Thus far I've got my case set with:
power supply
motherboard
cpu
dvd/cd

The main mobo and cpu power supplies are connected. The remainder of them have me shaking my head. The instructions that came with the power supply are pretty sketchy. Meanwhile I'm working my way thru the ABIT manual. I just don't wanna botch up this system when I power up.

Any suggestions for web based help...or tips from you folks?

Thanks,

Most power pins won't go where they dont belong and they won't go in the wrong way either. Your 10 pin connectors, like for your firewire & usb etc. must be correctly put in. Your instructions from your mainboard will warn you of this. They can fit the firewire and the usb. However usb must go to usb or you may damage your board. Usually they are color coded. Now I'm going from memory here and I don't build them everyday. Someone back me up or correct me.

I remember back when CD-ROM's first came out, you could plug in the power supply for your floppy into the audio plug of the CD-ROM.

I used to see power supplies and CD-ROM's fried all the time because of that!

As far as what connectors fit what... it's kind of hard to get them mixed up for the most part.  You can search around on the internet and find more information.

For starters, there's a pretty good guide HEREConnectors
