My understanding was that the M-105PF did have an overrev WEP capability and that this was the unit used in the Yak9 T,D etc.

The Yak 3 (and some Yak 9M) used the VK-105PF2 which infact was the same as the M-109PF but now continuously rated at the previous WEP rpm. (2600rpm)

Tilt,
Was the WEP changed a few patches ago... I have a memory of a gnat so don't even remember it having WEP.  Then again I didn't fly it for a while and things change...:aok

I think it was changed with AHII.  There is some confusion in my mind regarding the subject.

The M-105 went thru many incarnations from P to PA to PF to PF2 and even PF3. (latterly the M designation changed to VK in honour of the designer)

The Yak 9T was one of the first Yak 9 derivations from the Yak7. Indeed there was a Yak7-37 which was its forerunner. The Yak 9T therefore had the full gambit of engines from M-105(P) to VK-105PF.

The engine seems to have been steadily uprated from its initial 980hp to some 1240 ('ish) hp in the PF version and approx 1280hp in the PF2 version. Each time seems to have been a matter of increasing revs and or increasing boost gearing.

The PF2 certainly was more highly boosted than the PF. I was of the understanding that this was partly derived from making it "continuously rated" although searching thru stuff last night could not find reference to this.

I think we have Yak pilot notes somewhere and if they are Yak 9D or Yak 9T the same engine will be in both. (also this was in the  end of production run late 1943 Lagg3's)

Do you think the -9T represented here is not performing as it should? Might need to get that settled before they redo these planes,,and with the Lavochkins getting a facelift this could be soon.

I would bet that Pyro/HT check stuff and decide what ever they do or do not do  (when an ac is re vamped) is appropriate to the most realistic FM their tools allow.

The 9T is a bit of a bobsled: Great, as long as it's going downhill.

The plane handles well at high speeds, and retains speed very well after the dive. However it's total crap at climb/acceleration. So once you invest your E, it takes a while to bank more. If you get low, you're going to get slow, and when that happens...

But with a little Alt, you can really surprise the bastards on the deck. Drop down into the fray and you should have a few turns in there before you have to reload your energy.

Never fire more than a 3 round burst with the Hammergun. In fact, single shots worked best for me, and my aim is for ****. After learning the hard way, I didn't bother engaging Bombers though. Took more than 1 ping to get the kill sometimes and that's just not as satisfying

The Yak does a great counterclockwise barrell roll as a defensive manuever. You can sometimes sucker unwarey 190s with that as they make a B&Z pass on you.

The Yak9T was my favorite, and always gave me the best fights.
