Looking for joystick "optimizer" programs...
« on: February 03, 2008, 02:52:58 AM »
I have a logitech 3d joystick (cheap, bunch of buttons, twisty for rudder) and I just cant get the thing to behave using the AH joystick cal stuff.

No matter HOW much deadband I put in, I can't seem to eliminate the "slop" in the center of the stick.

Many moons ago, circa 1998ish, I recall using a "joystick optimizer" program that some computer-savy-non-neanderthal dude kindly created and published for the rest of us knuckle draggers to use, and it was SWEEET.

My prior stick was the coveted micro sidewinder 3d, yet another cheap twisty stick (I'm seeing a pattern here...) but that darn thing worked well for me, especially after using dudes program.

Since I can't get rid of the slop in the center of the stick, it is constantly spiking and robbing me of precious E that I desperately need to run away from the rest of you bloodthirsty savages in the game.

Anybody know or have this type of program I might be able to use by chance?

Idi they still sell MS sidewinders on Ebay. Great place to pick up a good lightly used stick for half the price of a new one.

You do need to be very careful picking which model it is your bidding on.

Lots of old gameport adapter 3d pros, and Precision Pros.

Myself I prefer the newer layout with the Sidewinder Prec 2 usb.

Stay away from logitech, they use cheap pots. If you fly every day with one in 3 months you'll be calibrating several times a day.

If I was ever to give up on my MS sidewinders I'd be looking at replaceing them with a Saitek Aviator, cyborg, or X52.

But with 3 good spares in the closet I'm set with sidewinders for life.

I keep a sidewinder FF as a backup. By golly that thing can do the job. My Saitek pro just has more options.

I've never had a logitech. I picked them up and they just didn't feel right.

Go with Saitek or Ch.

Well I bought a saitek x52 stick and THAT solved the problem.  Go figure...

The "slop" in the saitek doesnt register in the joystick config program even if I wiggle it a bit.  Very nice.  Now all I have to do is get used to the new set up, and we ALL know how much of a pain that is...

The logitech has been summarily executed for the crime of impersonating a joystick...

Say a prayer that the X-52 stays healthy; many don't...delevoping the drift and nose bounce that drove you crazy. Most people, sooner or later, wind up with CH gear. It's well built and you'd have to search far and wide to find anyone who's disatisfied with Ch products.
