You know you suck when you can only land 2 or 3 kills in a spit.:noid

Spit XIV really doesn't handle at all like a Spit.  It is almost Teutonic in handling.

The K4 is a better ride than the 14 by far.

14 turns better climbs better has those super cannons and under 10k can almost keep up with it.

In a low-speed turn or stall fight, even with the flaps' down, It shows a disturbing tendency to snap-roll and auger, especially if you are on and off the throttle.

And Alas, This Spit is built for hight alts' then those we usually find even in this setup. Spit VIII mighta been better.

Yes, it kicks ass. It and the F4 made me love the 109.

Was talking to frode. I dont know if he was talking about the 14 or the k4, but what he was saying sounds just like a K4.

Sorry I'm so long getting back to this, TK, but yeah. I've flown all the 109's at some time or another (Although I haven't yet in this AvA war.) You have to fly the Spit XIV alot more carefully than the others'; Not only is it's low-speed handling worse than the Merlin-engined spits', but It also will rip the wings' off alot easier. Ask Oldman, He was in a KI-84 earlier tonight, I was in a Spit XIV. We were in roughly the same speed range, and I tried to pull a turn to match one of Oldman's, in a scissors. Both outer wings' came off.

I stand by what I said earlier, because the heavier Griffon engine in the XIV does adversely affect perfomance. IMHO, the XIV is the worst of the Spits, when it comes' to low-speed turn fighting, And I believe it has a higher wing loading-Which is why it is easy to snap roll and spin it in, even at 200 IAS.

Confirmed.  Damndest thing I ever saw.

I like Karnak's characterization:  Spit 14's handling is almost Teutonic.  But if you fly it like a 109K4 it really is an uber plane.
