The sub issue has been debated time and again. Yes Hitech wants it, but all I see is squeakers thinking they can get in one and chase a 50 MPH carrier underwater firing torpedoes as he goes.
As I've noted in the myriad of other submarine threads, this is not how subs can or would be used. They would primarily operate litorally, i.e. in coastal areas, driving CV groups back into deep water where they belong. Remember, in AH, some sop usually parks the CV in a back-and-forth pattern 5 miles off shore from an enemy base, where it stays until sunk or the base is captured. You don't have to chase the CV. It will predictably pass back and forth in front of your torpedo tubes like a duck in a shooting gallery. With a little coordination, it can simply pop to the surface as the CV prepares to cross its T, lob a spread of 6 torps, then quickly retreat to the depths. If the sub driver is smart, he can reverse and chuck another four torps from the stern tubes while the CV is still crossing perpendicular to the sub. Thus, it will be at once more deadly and harder to kill than PT boats, which rarely get close enough to an enemy ship to fire torps, due to the ack.
