A starting point for attrition modeling: limited airframes and delivery schedules

Hi all,

A couple of years ago, I put into a spreadsheet the data I collected from a book I bought. Innacurate this numbers may be, I admit, but they must not be very far from the truth.

I believe that a proportional distribution of makes and models could bring an important change in behaviour to AvA pilots.

I don't believe that these numbers were not enough for a whole TOD, even in the lemmingiest AvA attitude...

Let's apply year of entry into service along WW2 timeline and divide it in 3 delivery batches and we would have someting like this:

That's a lot of work you've done there. S!

I'll admit I didn't plow through the whole thing. Many of us have similar data bases, however the key elements are model, deployment in squadron strength in the field, and which theater of operations they were deployed in. Often it was many months between production and squadron strength deployment, so you see this can be a critical bit of information if you expect your setup not to be challenged.

Also, I think you said you were depending on a single book, and it may be an excellent reference, but I'd want to know what it was before I counted on this data, and I had trouble tracking the meaning of the four and sometimes five numbers after the plane name. Probably because it's been a long day and I need a nap lol.

LOL! Yep, my IT capabilities are not enough to insert a spreadsheet properly in this BB...Sorry, it's a bit messy, really...

It was not much work, only required a little patience to insert data, the rest are array copied formulas...it's easy and it's ready to work with other figures, more models, different ratios, etc, etc...

To be honest, I compiled this data and much more...Would you like to know how many Amiot Bombers the French had in 1939?

My source was Aircraft of World War II - A visual encyclopedia, by Michael Sharpe, Jerry Scuts and Dan March, first published in 1999 by PRC Publishing Ltd, London. ISBN 1 902616 62 6 .

Even I must admit that these are unofficial data, and even historians strive to arrive to correct prodution figures, so, they must be handled with some caution...

Anyway, just a quick explanation about this numbers and the whole idea behind that:

I allways - since WB - that I thought that resource management should play an important role in the whole simulation. So, I got these total production figures and determined his percentual weight in the total aircraft production.

Then - and this is very important - I divided the total aircraft by 21, the number of days a WB TOD would take to do a whole WW2 plane set.

Based on that figure, I applied the 1st ratio and obtained the total number of each model to be allocated to a single TOD.

Then, I divided the simulated total number of aircraft by his years of service, since introduced.

That's why the Late War models are tottally zeroed in the first years of conflict...

Finally, I distributed the yearly total allotment of aircraft in 3 installments:

50% would be available right from the start of the TOD;
25% would be in delivery process and would be available at 1/3 of the time defined for a year (a couple of days);
25% would be beeing built in a factory running at 100% strenght; during 1/3 of the period defined for a year, they would be building and, if the factory had not been destroyed or damaged, they would release their batches of aircraft into the delivery stream, that would take a few days to deliver them to the front, making them available for the last 1/3 of the "year" period. This, in optimal conditions, because damage would hamper speed or output, maybe both...

In the "next year" the aircraft delivered would remain available until expended...

Because every time an aircraft was shot down, the HOST would reduce it's total number by one...And when it arrived to zero...well, it would be time to get another kite...

I already recalculated these figures for a 30 day TOD (more planes!) and changed the allocation % to 50/20/30. Also calculated that each year of conflict would correspond to 4 days, 6 hours and 43 minutes of AH time.

I sent the Excel spreadsheet to Easyscor by e-mail to be shared by whoever wishes to do so.

Maybe they'll give it a chance, who knows?
