Aces High I and Aces High II
« on: February 13, 2008, 06:05:46 PM »
I'm doing a compare and contrast essay for school and I thought that I would do Aces High I and Aces High II.  Is there anyone who played AH1 and maybe has some screenshots or could tell me what it was like?  Any help and any other facts would be greatly appreciated.

Remove alot of the planes and Gv we have now, take all the new ground graphics out, remove the high poly planes we have, remove the high detail cockpits. and reduce the flight model.

.....thats about it, i think?

add night and one MA.  Plus weekly resets by one of the staff, who would have little chats with us via their god channel.

The banter on channel 200 (was actually channel 1 that could not be de-tuned).  Was in the early early going I think a little more civil than it is now.  But I think the community was, by virtue of the fact that it was much smaller then, more close-knit than it is now.  A lot of people who were playing Aces High back in the beta days were transplants from Warbirds or even AW, so a lot of people already knew each other.

I think the pricing structure contributed to, when you're charging 2/Hr or in AH1's case $30/mo your target market is going to be the enthusiasts, the guys who want to be ww2 fighter pilots so bad that they gladly pay monthly phone bills in the hundreds of dollars.   At $15/mo.  you attract much more casual gamers, but you also attract a lot MORE people.  When the pool gets bigger, when you cast a bigger net, yes you end up with more fish but you increase the number of fish you have to throw back as well.

(for the record I was really happy when they lowered the price, as I was a poor starving college student at the time. :))

Choose what you like of course, but I wouldn't of thought an essay based on a hobby especially a computer game would earn many stars. Simply because it's far easier then choosing a subject that's also new to you and that you've learnt from by completing the essay.

What about...

Compare and Contrasts in weather conditions and it's impact on farmers.

Or Detroit car industry from it's 60's boom time to today.

You could compare approach to the Soviet Union of two different presidents. Or and I think a more interesting approach would be to compare the approach to the west of earlier Soviet presidents to Gorbachev.

Anyway, Just my two cents, good luck.

Wow.. I just downloaded AHI and went for a quick offline spin..

AHH the memories... well not really considering I never played AHI.  It's actually much, much better than I expected.  The physics felt a little "goofy", but then again I'm used to AHII.

Graphics wise though... I was quite impressed.. I expected things to be a lot more.. pixelated... but they really aren't THAT bad!

This leads me to wonder.. what did you old AH fogeys think of AHII when it first came out?  (Compared to AHI)
