Nothing to see here
« on: February 07, 2008, 02:39:06 PM »
After the AvA war, I thought of a use for the PBY.  What if the PBY had something like a ground radar.  When the PBY flies within vis of an enemy cv, a enemy cv dot appears on the clipboard map.

Could also be done with GV's in say a....Fieseler Fi 156 Storch or a recon version of the Mossie.

Wouldn't need an exact location, maybe just a bracket with a 5 mile radius.  A giant [  ]  Just something more accurate than the keypad reference.

We were just talking about the same thing in this thread.

And yes, the PBY has been asked for multiple times.

The problem with scout plane's is the fact they were used in none hot zones, and for getting downed pilots .ect.

and because any fighter in aces high anywhere can tell the location of anything they see while in flight, everyone* is a scout.

Don't get me wrong, i would love a sea plane or two or three, but logic dictates they were not a weapon of war, but a tool.

Aces high focuses on weapons of war, not scouting around for troop movement damage assesment .ect

And yeah i would love a dot command for marking spots for ship arty, but thats another thing we realy do not need granted even a p40b can fly around a base and spot for his ships gunners.

In thery I agrey with you but one point does need to be made,,, the Goony bird was not a wepen either. and the Goos was used to hunt and KILL subs so altho we do not have subs in this game that would make the goos more of a combatent then the goon. The other points are good but again If you are worried about other people knowing your location then stay below 500 ft. Other then that,, all we can do is ask for the black dot distance to be decreesed to about 2 or 3 miles and perhaps some weather ef****ts. O and as to landing thay had to be at about 200 to 150 to land and could land on water or a landing field.thoe it was safer to land and take off in the water, I believe due to the gears squatness the aircraft would scrape ground some times if it was bounced a bit so thay avoided landing or taking off on land to avoid undeteckted damage to the hull.
