Mosq,

Athlon 64 3000+ comes in three flavors not only 754. See link:

Hs has a socket 939 processor. He can either go with the x2 i.e. dual core of a single core upgrade. If he will use machine primarily for gaming the higher freq processor would be recommended, that said, there are higher freq of 939 x2 processors available.

x2 939 go up to 4800+ - 2.4GHz (110W), Single core 939 is up to 4000+ - 2.4GHz(89W). Of these two of course the 4800+ will be superior, I am not sure of availability though.

Still after a processor upgrade, the vid card has to go.

Regards

Ace

Video card 1st, if your going to consider an upgrade to the proccesor then I'd consider an AGP 3850 VC.

3850

If you dont plan on upgrading (or overclocking) your CPU then this VC will be bottlenecked fairly badly.

I think that the AMD Opteron 185 is the top tier now for AMD S939 mobo's--if you can find them.

Forget about the FX-60's--if you did find one they'd want far too much for it.
Win 10 Home 64, AMD Ryzen 9 3900X, MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus, GSkill FlareX 32Gb DDR4 3200 4x8Gb, XFX Radeon RX 6900X 16Gb, Samsung 950 Pro 512Gb NVMe PCI-E SSD (boot), Samsung 850 Pro 128Gb SATA SSD (pagefile), Creative SoundBlaster X7 DAC-AMP, Intel LAN, SeaSonic PRIME Gold 850W, all CLWC'd
