so WHAT if it's a 'waste of resources'-- a minor point which is often lost here, is that the game is about FUN! I can't think of anything more fun than a big crew of bombers and fighters calling you out on 200 and say "come on up ****ies here we are!" If and when CT ever gets up and going it will be about fights such as this:aok

that was a nice mission, wtg guys

367th knew it was coming from reading the boards earlier
so we were watching for a large dar bar to show up well behind the front
then we noticed it roll from A12 i think

that was one of our guys that scouted you south of 13
we had about 7 guys on, and tried to do what we could with Ta152's,
but there was a ton of escort, the buff formations were tight and its hard to attack buffs at 30K (I need to work on that, lol)

I love those "Scenarios" within the MA, g/j  S`

Forget that the majority of all rooks were in a single mission and that almost no activity was happening on the bish/rook front, but we were getting slammed nonstop by bish while the entire rook team steamrolls to our HQ.....

Forget complaints of "waste of resource" on the rook side....

I'm sick of giant missions where the LOWEST straggling bomber is 25k, and the majority are 30k!!! Fighters even higher!

Hell I was flying a 110 for almost an hour trying to get up to them. When I finally got remotely close to "tail end charlie" (who was probably 6k below all other bombers! a measely 25-26k) 6 fighters above and around all tried to take potshots at me and one other knit. A single evasive and viola, the bombers are walking away and far above me now.

Screw that.

Finally go and land (sick of this crap) and find ENY is at 6. No Me163s. Bombers are almost over our HQ. My final words were, I believe, "screw the rooks," and "this isn't what I call fun," and I logged.

So when you get an organized mission that stays below 30k, hell stays below 26k, and you successfully defend it and hit the target, THEN you can have bragging rights.

Until then it's a dweeb-o-rama steamroller milkrun fest.

:rofl :rofl :rofl

You take a 110 to hunt high-alt buffs, then complain you can't catch up with them? Oh boy...

Someone is defenitely  looking for easy to kill 10k buff raids.

ANY big buff mission under 20k with a darbar like that and an announcement both on boards & CH 200 is shredded even before getting close to their objective.

And 25k for buffs is a quite historical altitude for B-17's.

All was fair yesterday, defenders had alot of time to scramble and many, many of them did.

Krusty, before you start up, let me inform you.  The bomber stream leveled at 25,000ft to start our bombing campaign. Once we dropped on the last target ( AAA ) we started to climb for egress, we had already 85% of the bombers before we dropped on our last target.

As for a 110, why in gods name did you roll a 110 out of all of the fighter interceptors available? Odd :huh .

Lucshe, I had ample time to climb. We saw the dar bar building well before they crossed our "front line." I was at 25k before I spotted the first con. I don't consider flying bombers at max speed and max alt (where they can't climb any further!) to be brave by any exaggeration of the word.

Talon: somehow (we had a lot of BAD location reports) the bombers snuck past me, I was too close to the edge of the map. I came up behind the stream. There were 2 formations way lower than the rest, the rest being dots much higher and outside icon range in front of me. One formation was being attacked already. I noted my alt, between 25 and 26k. The other bombers were barely visible as formations but were DEFINITELY higher than me, to the point where I would be unsure of getting up to them to make an attack where I not on the stragglers I had found.

CC sir, just went over the film. The 78th BGH was above 26k, they leveled at about 27-28k. That might have been the stream you were looking at.  The main stream had leveled at 25k sir.

Max throttle on a B17 is 46 0r 48 manifold. We were at 35 to 40 to stay grouped. Third group(484th BGH) were slightly behind and lower than AATaleN's lead group at 24 to 25k. Would you like some cheese with that? :t
So many people piss and moan about non historical use of the bombers in the game(especially the late war mains), yet when they are flown historically, people still whine. I'm sure the Rooks who took out Knight field radar and acks appreciated them not popping sooner for awhile at least.
Oh well, we had a blast, stuff got blown up, many cons got shot down. That's all I wanted. Awesome mission AATaleN, 484th looks forward to flying more strategic high altitude historical missions with you. :aok:cool:

"historical"?

Were you at max cruise? Did you have the weight of 100% fuel onboard? Also with fuel burn and nearly full throttle you only got much lighter as you continued flying, improving your speed and performance as you progressed.

Let's not forget (historically) entire areas where LW planes attacked unmolested because the escort fighters were busy miles away, the bomber stream strechting for miles and miles.

You can dismiss it as a "whine" if you like but in this game it's a valid complaint.

EDIT: Never mind, I'm not going to argue about that. Suffice it to say they were still as high as they could get and almost as fast as they could get.

367th sat around waiting for the rook mission to begin. We spotted it pretty early and got in on it quick. Us guys had a lot of fun chasing down the mission and trying to take out some buffs.

I don't understand the complaints from people, whatever they are. Seeing that many cons in one area gets your heart pumping.

I guess the guys that complain are the ones  that didn't want to put in the effort to be a part of the mission. Either on the knit side or the rook side. They wanted their 2 kills in a lala then land. Us, that had fun, understand what these missions are all about and I would like to thank the guys on the rook front that put it on!

I even had a chance to up a 163 and land it for the first time in MA!

Great job of breaking up the furballs and giving us something to do other than b*tch on 200!

Just be happy they were at 25K and not being used for dive bombing LOL

And in the knits defence. When I was on we were being steamrolled pretty good by both Rooks and Bish.

Its not like the Knits were in a position to mount any kind of serious defence

I always thought that was the idea behind strategic bombing. To actually get thru to your target, destroy it with bombs, and then make it back home.

I never knew we were supposed to furball with them.:p
