Thank you to all Knights who participated in the Alliance Missions yesterday.

Thanks to the Inter-Squad and Independant participation we took 5 bases in just over 2 hours.

I saw many ID's that normally do not participate in missions join the fray.

See what happens when squads work together?  We had over 40+ in each mission...the enemy was helpless to stop us when we worked as one.

Most knights talk about "all we do is furball"..."we never pork like we should"..."we never get organized"....

Well....

*******Alliance Missions********

ARE BACK with a VENGANCE!

When you see one, JOIN IT.

We WILL get the job done.

Thanks again to all the folks who participated to kick backsides and take names...I'm proud of every one of you!

One behalf of the organizers (Raccdogg, 68Gunny, and myself)...we salute you all!!!!   <>

On behalf of one of the Alliance, job well done by Raccdog,Rox and Gunny.I like taking orders from the gunny...just like the days of long gone past.Semper Fi!!The key was we had three strong leaders, and radio traffic was kept to a minimum,so we could get the mission executed. It was as good a job as can be done by a group that large.Plus the fun factor was enormous, and thats the reason I fly AH.I will be looking forward to the next missions.

You had about half the entire knit team on your mission to 36, and when a few squaddies and myself decided to go see the progress about 20-30 minutes in to your mission, we got there to find the town mostly up, the ACK *still* up, and a general state of total disarray.

I just wonder wtf was going on for the first half hour?

Meanwhile, while half the players were at that field, we lost 2 more just north of it, and the field you used to hit 36 was sacked pretty hard (we almost lost it too).

IMO shallow victory.

I think missions can be great fun, and get folks involved. However, just running up a giant mission roll-call means squat if you can't get 'em to do the job that much faster.

A group of 10 players might have had the field down, capped, and the town cleared inside of 5 minutes, but a group of 40+ couldn't do the same in 4x the time.

This isn't a dig at you, it's just a commentary that giant missions aren't a benefit unless they get the job done, and they rarely do. I appreciate that you're trying (some don't even try!)

Krusty, what we thought at 36 would be a relatively easy take, but half of the ROOK nation turned out to defend.  The rooks were using 36 as a staging base to not only beat up on the bish--but to pork our bish front bases so that our efforts against the bish were hampered.

It was obvious the rooks were pressing hard to win the map...and 36 had to go.

36 Was a base the rooks weren't going to give up quietly.

Yes, It took 4 waves and three goons but we did it.

The other 4 bases we took a lot less time...and we had 2 missions taking the same base simultaneously--an air mission and a gv mission...a luxury we did not have on the island base of 36.

I don't think it was at all a hollow victory....

I DO think knights are a little rusty at being the ones on the butt kicking end of the victory     :aok

But all that is changing   :)

Having that many guys in is silly.

Good strategy would be to divide and conquer.  Hitting different targets at the same time so the enemy doesnt know where to defend.

Bish had a 20 man mission the other week, everything was done perfectly except the goons.  1 p47 managed to spray one troop (i think 1 building was up) and the pilot bailed and managed to prevent the second drop in his chute.

It is rare that would happen but if any Con comes near town you have to look/ strafe map room its basic.

Having large "alliances" or "gathering of human shields" to take fields in horde like fashion is my biggest hate.   Theres teamwork and organisation but many of these so called "leaders" or win the war types can't fly for their supper.

...Ditto, Bruv. I really could not have said so any better myself. This is a basic Gameplay issue, IMHO.

:rofl  Hurly-Burly :rofl   Oh man that is the word of the day for me!

Yeah, using large groups is okay to a certain extent... But 5 bases in 2 hours is kind of low.  But I am with Bruv on this as well as Lusche on this one.

I guess what all the other vets said about the Alliance makes me look foolish.I never was much on base capture and missions,so I didn't realize it was a waste of manpower and time.I still had fun,so I will continue to join the Alliance missions.Sorry for not seeing the forest, but for the trees.

Missions can be fun. You can run a mission with no real goal. However, gigantic missions HAVE a goal, and rarely accomplish it.

Keep participating in them, if you enjoy it. Just keep pushing the other folks to stick to the task at hand.

Some squaddies and I ran a strat bombing mission earlier. It was an open invite mission. We had 5 b17 formations and about 5 fighter escorts. Halfway to target we pass over a single set of b17s 10k below us, and immediately 2 escorts peel off (despite warnings not to) and go down to pick the b17s. Wether they got them or not, they never rejoined us. One died from b17 defensive fire, the other... who knows?

hey if you had fun it's all good, that's the aim of the game, fun, not taking bases.

i do agree though, that with a ton of guys, it's not a great idea to do one base. with 40+ fairly skilled guys you could get four bases in as many minutes, provided there are no cockups.

Much truth here.

As an example, last weekend (not this one just passed) the Rooks had rolled almost every GV base in Bishland on the big (pinwheel) map.  It was about 2:00 AM where I am.  I saw a big group of Bish working to take one of the VB's back and another VB flashing at the other end of the map with one guy flying around it.  I thought that the Rooks would be busy defending against the bigger attack, and rather than help the guy who had the other base flashing, I went to hit yet a third base, the intent being to spread the defense out.

The big attack won the base they were working on and one other while I rolled 3 bases alone. The other single guy didn't get his base.

The point is, you don't need a hoard if you use good strategy.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

OH...BELIEVE me it was a BLAST!

Just to hear the guys on the ground look up and see the air guys show up and go.."I've never seen anything like this before"

It was great to see folks who normally don't join missions get in on it and later say how much fun it was.:aok

Knights used to do them all the time a couple of years ago, but the dynamics changed.

I'd see GHI put together one of his B-26 specialties (20+ boxes of B-26's with lots of Jug/Spit/Pony escorts) and wonder..."How come we don't do stuff like that anymore?"

Well...now we do.

Again, thanks for the participation...I had a blast!

B26 is fast, climbs well, best tail guns/amo, and i don't have patience to fly more than 2 sectors,  bomb and after go low, strafe, HO, vulch and throw empty beer cans like a bunch of dirty gang bikers on Harley Ds  in movies with punks. Great tool to trash bases!:)

Although it wasn't perfect on the first one...we were 5 for 5.  That's why I posted originally...I was hugely proud of the folks who joined.

And we all learned something about missions, especially the communications and importance of maintaining radio dicepline.

And ghi...my hats off to you.  Whenever it's a weekend, and you start seeing a couple of dar-bars coming straight at you and that BLOB of red icons has boat-loads of B-26s and boatloads of escorts...it has your fingerprints all over it.  <>

I gotta say, it's a WHOLE lot more fun being in the mission than it is having to defend against it, but that's just me.
