WWII Aircraft Trivia ???
« on: February 27, 2008, 10:46:57 AM »
Gentlemen and Ladies,

Here is the question for which the prize is additional knowledge. :) You will have four multiple choice options to choose from. Now, take a guess we're not interested in how well you can do research.:furious Here is you're question, Good luck contestants...:aok

What were the combination(s) of aircraft that were associated with the first USAAF kills of German aircraft in World War II, was it?

1) Spitfire IX > Bf109F

2) P-47 > He111

3) P-38 & P-40 > FW200

4) None of the above.

Have Fun...

Cheers:aok

I believe it was the P-38 and the P 40, against the FW200 somewhere in the North Atlantic.   P-38 damaged it and the P40 finished it off...

Yep Iceland sounds right,  I kept thinking Greenland but that didnt sound right.   I think the P-38 pilot ran out of ammo and the P-40 stole the kill...

It's #4, and it was the P-38 that shot it down after the P-40 got some hits on it in an earlier engagement.

2d Lt. Elza Shahan, flying a P-38F, recorded the first American victory in the European theater of operations when he and a P-40 pilot downed a Focke-Wulf FW-200 near Iceland on August 14, 1942.

2d Lt Joseph D Shaffer (33d Ftr Sq) and 2d Lt Elza E Shahan (27th Ftr Sq)

Shahan: Why should I go when the kill status shows that I'm a better pilot than you??

Shaffer: Why sont you go DA with me? Scared

Shahan: Nope not scared, I will meet ya there. (loggs)

A few minutes later in the DA.....

Shaffer: Where is that guy?? Man I'm gonna take him down!!

About 5 minutes later......

Shaffer: OH MY GOD, THAT STUPID NOOB LOGGED!!!!!!!!!!

Sound familiar? Its happened to me.
