The AH 12-Step program
« on: February 27, 2001, 02:18:00 PM »
Where are you in the 12-step program   Did I miss any?

1. Install game and learn where guns and throttle are but don't bother learning anything else.

2. Suffer from "Lawn Dart" syndrome and complain that Flight Model sucks.

3. Take a few minutes and actually read the instructions and then customize ALL the settings just the way you like.

4. Kill a few C47's and M3's but constantly complain that CHOG is "Overmodled" and that N1K2 is "Super Uber Dweeb"

5. Complain that Ostwind is overmodled

6. Complain that Ack and Flak guns are too accurate

7. Accuse Mitsu of cheating

8. Finally kill Mitsu and feel REALLY good

9. Kill 3 CHOGS and 2 N1K2's in a single mission with a 202.

10. Successfully de-ack and capture an entire Large base by yourself.

11. Save 5 teammates butts in a single mission and live to tell about it.

12. Post advice for "newbies" on the Message Board!

Got any more?

Somehow I leaped from no. 6 to no. 12 on your list. Don't know how I did that :-)
I'm STILL stuck on no. 6 though...

Still haven't met Mitsu in the air though've had my share of deaths attributed to NathBDP and Spatula with 1-2 kills if that counts :-P

What about customizing all your sounds? That was my step 7.

Or how's about finally trying to fly in ALL the aircraft to see which one you are the most UBER in :-) (that was between steps 5 and 6)

Sounds like a great system for awarding medals.

LOL Hitech!  I think the medals idea would be pretty funny but cool.  Imagine getting a medal for reading the instructions!  he he he.  then later on you can earn medals for those amazing missions and have something to prove you did it

Not a bad idea to help newbies have more incentive to learn new things and it also would be good to teach old dogs new tricks.  Can you have it done by monday?  he he he

Yeah, but someone would complain that the medals were over modeled, or the models were over medalled, or something like that... hmmm.. how would you define an uber-medal?  Solid gold with diamond clusters instead of plated brass with rhinestones?  Dunno..

You forgot the other early stages.

a. Anounce in caps that I NEED A GUNNER!!!
b. Anounce on the open channel that you have a goon for a9.
c. announce in caps HOW DO YOU FLY??? to which i normally reply "Badly without a plane"
oh, and then theres the "Join my sqaud" threads of conversation on chnl 1 that end up being raging theological debates - Christians vs Pegans (that one was funny!).

I have been shot down, and have shot down most of my main nemesis (mostly by my cunning sneak-up-and-bounce-em-@-500-MPH method), mitsu included. Once we (357th) hunted him when he left our sqaud it was 5vs1

ou could add some .5's in there...

1.5 to 12.5 -> suffer waves of "bad streaks" thankfully separated by "not so bad" streaks

Add a lot between 7 & 8 (only got to kill Mitsu in the TA so far, with a ratio of something like 1354354/1)

6.1 - Decide to leave AH, you definatively have a burnout ! Post it in the main BB (I LEAVE!)
6.2 (2 evenings later) Come back in the "Main", try something "silly" like flying a C202 ... end up getting 3 Kill, Ya' in love again !
6.3 ...

Well… Being the newest member to respond to this post so far, here is where I stand:

Somewhere around step 3.  I learn a little more each time I fly and/or read this BB.  I usually try and work things out myself unless I’m in a sticky situation.  (I.e. being on the ground in an M3 for the first time, on an enemy base, and madly trying to map the “open doors” for vehicles before the bad guys show up)

Don’t think I’ll ever make it to 4, 5, or 6.  I’ve never been in or flew the real thing so, how the hell do I know if its over modeled or not.  I leave it to the capable developer who has obviously done more research than I have on the subject.  Enough to program the model in the first place.  If it’s wrong, again how do I know, I just fly it and have fun learning.

7 & 8 – not real sure I know who Mitsu is, sounds like someone I should put on my list though.

Never flown the 202.  Not sure if I will.  My current plane set knowledge is somewhat limited to my skill level.  Right now I’m trying, once again, the P51.  I will figure out why so many people like it!

Never been able to save more than one teammate, but I’m trying.

I have successfully de-acked and taken a “V” field all by myself

Posting for “newbies”, try to keep to a minimum as to not show my arse too much

Additional step…  Withdrawal symptoms appearing when the work load, and wife load reach a level of interference that result in a (as my boss would put it) “A complete discontinuance and disruption which results in a non-service delivery situation”

Zippatuh   -   Finally some flight time tonight!
