Enabling Voice communication
« on: March 14, 2008, 11:18:36 PM »
My apologies if this is covered somewhere already, hopefully it is and someone who has superior search-fu skills can point me in the right direction.

I can't seem to get voice comm to work.  I'm using the same headset/mic set up that I have used successfully for several other games.  I'm sure I'm simply missing something simple...  Hopefully.  Any links to voice troubleshooting and/or sage advice would be appreciated.

On an unrelated note, since I have your attention.  I've been playing for a grand total of two days or so now, and have noticed the system chat announcing that "So & so" has landed with x number of kills blah blah.

I'm curious why I don't see the same message when I land after getting a good kill.  Is it perhaps because I am not a member of a squadron yet?  Or perhaps it only makes this announcement when multiplte kills are scored in a single sortie?  Just curious actually.  Love the game.  I was a big fan of Air Warrior and played a lot of IL2 also.

Thanks in advance.

edit to add:  By the way, running WinXP still, no Vista here.

I thought that that might be the case.  As of yet, I don't think I've posted more then one kill in a single sortie.  Still working on getting my gunnery skills back up to snuff and tend to empty the bullet tossers a bit faster then I should.  Thanks for the reply.

Anyone know anything about the vox issue?  I'm a bigger computer noob then AH noob, so use small slow words.   :D

A tip while working with it is to put your ID into the VOX channel box. It's the one that's furthest right when you open the chat bar. When you hold the T key, you ought to hear a slightly offset version of yourself talking.

If the microphone works in other games but doesn't in AH, it obviously isn't muted and the Mic Boost is on. I can't think of anything else to check right now.

Thanks for that.  That'll be very helpful as I try to figure it out.

By default, the microphone is not the primary recording device in Windows.  Setting the microphone to be the primary recording device should be all you need to do.  Make sure when transmitting, you hold down the T or F12 key.
