Another item we need is the B-29 stratofortress. I mean who cant love that plane it won ww2 for us by droping the a-bombs on Japan It deserves to be in AHII even though it had technial difficulties it should be in aces high(atleast thats what I think)

I don't.  The A-bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a dirty move, since Japan had already retreated.  America killed hundred upon hundreds of civillians whom of which were unarmed.  I'm sure the plane was great though.  However, no self-respecting American should "love" the plane because it slaughtered innocent people.

We had a big, long discussion about it in the O'club. One thing that was agreed on: The projected U.S. invasion of Japan, would have cost AT LEAST 500,000 U.S. casualties, with some projections' going as high as 1 million +. Japanese casualties were projected at a rate of at least 10-15x what ours' would have been. The A-bombs' didn't kill hundreds; they killed tens of thousands (@80,000, each.) That, however, was a lot less than any invasion. So in a sense, it was the best, most humanitarian way to end the war.

As far as the plane itself goes, the B-29 was an important plane. However, it has been asked for many times before. The search function should help, there.

Sorry, Mods, next time I'll confine any political discourse to the O'club, where it belongs. However, the post I quoted will probably still bring responses' such as mine, probably more vitriolic.

Yeah and Iraqis are unarmed too...

I would bet my life if we invaded, the land of the rising sun would arm women and children too to defend their emperor.

This fact was proven

Japan had already mobilized a army of "the people"  using rakes, clubs, fists.. anything, to fight to the last man woman and child for their "god"

the level of their commitment was proven all to well when the US started capturing islands and the Japanese Civilians living on them began committing mass suicide.

women would throw their own children from cliffs before jumping themselves..

the A-bombs saved far more Japanese than it did Americans

had we chose not to drop them, the Japanese would be an extinct civilization existing only in the pages of history.

Hmm, how about thee search button!  :aok

A nuke did no more damage than a standard air raid so if you really want the damage, get some squadies or friends to up b24's or lanc's with you, but I don't think any of us want a plane where a few guys can take down the whole map.
HT's said it isn't ever gonna come, so DROP it.

Stolen picture, but I love it :]

And of course NO b29 thread would be complete without!!

WOOWOO!!
Sometimes, we just need to remember what the rules of life really are: You only
need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the
WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

Shouldn't this be O Club over beers?

1. I wouldn't be here to annoy you had we invaded Japan.  My dad was a nose gunner in B24s, cocked, locked, and ready to invade and most likely would never have come home.  He was there at the time and lived on the airfields, and his commentary was "The Japanese would not have seen the sun or the moon for all the aircraft overhead".  After our experience on Okinawa we were as ready as you could be to finish it.  They were getting so many aircraft in from the mainland that anything with a scratch was junked so there'd be room for the new arrivals.

2. The bombs also did a lovely job of keeping Stalin in check.  He declared war after the first and before the second so he cold do a land grab at the last minute.  The Soviets were not in a position to keep loosing men, so he wasn't about to declare until the battle was won.

Truman's decision will be forever debated and I genuinely doubt we will ever know all the circumstances.  As for me...I've see far worse things done with less justification.

8 to go.

Guys leave him alone. Alot of you just put up negative stuff for EVERYTHING. I almost never see half of you get any good ideas. Most come from people new to the forums or from people who actually want something. So unless you have a request for a plane that alot of people would like to see, shut it.   :furious
