As this is a laptop with a dual core CPU, you must install this patch from Microsoft as well.
Windows Hotfix

It is not available via the Microsoft updater.  It will not hurt anything to install the update, but could fix some really bizarre problems.

That was the first thing I installed, did it before I installed AHII.  :aok

Didn't fix it.

So far I've tried:

Hotfix
Updated drivers for both the monitor & graphics chip
Updated windows
Re-installed AHII
Changed AHII to run in Windows 98/Me mode

I'm fresh out of ideas. Kinda sucks because part of the reason I bought this computer was because of the ability to install windows & play AH on it.

Any other ideas Skuzzy?

Have you gone in to your video settings and adjusted the graphic to performance ration? Check to see if it is towards the performance side of the house. if it is slide it to the graphic side of the house but not all the way test it in small steps.

Cheers,
Dave

The more I deal w/ Windows, the more frustrated I get. Where exactly do I find the video settings? I know I've seen it, but they hide everything & I'll be danged if I can find it.  :furious

At this point, I'm willing to try anything. I just noticed that smoke doesn't show up either...  :cry

Sounds to me like your trying to run a 10 second quarter mile, and your blaming Ford, only problem is, you bought a Ford dump truck instead of a Ford Mustang!

Only way your going to be able to MAYBE run the game is turn everything in the game down to the bare minimums.

I know the suggestions are well-intentioned, but changing the vid graphic settings probably won't help him.  They didn't help me with this laptop of mine.  I've adjusted through the entire range, and those same fragmented images still show up for me as well.

It seems to happen more often in the pt boat and around water for me, but it's been seen all over at random times.   :frown:

if you have an nvidia card you should be able to right click on the desktop and bring up a menu that says ajust graphic properties.  at least that's the way it works for me on xp. :rock

Everything else looks far better than anything I've used before. The only problem is with transparancies. I can't get smoke, wake & exhaust to appear where it needs to be.

I'm also having issues with bluetooth headsets. In XP I have to dig for third party drivers & call manufacturers (who were of no use) & I still have no vox.

In OS X (macintosh) I turned the headset on & started talking through it after entering the pass code for the headset.

If I can't get it to work, I'll just cancel my account. Right now it's not worth the headache to get it up & running right only to have to go on & deal with all the B.S. in the MA right now.

So if I can't figure it out by the end of the night, I'll just dump POS XP from my computer.

And after working for Ford for nearly 10 years as a technician & also having owned a Mustang, I'd blame them too for not being able to run 10 second quarter miles with the inferior products they produce. (6.4 & 6.0 Powerstrokes to start my long list)

If you buy a dump truck and expect it to run the quarter mile like a Mustang your going to be very disappointed.

Same as with this laptop. with the video card your running in it you won't ba able to push the game graphics. Your running out of resources so the first things that go are your transparencies. Turning the textures way down and such may get you by, but face it, your still driving a dump truck. Your blaming XP for your troubles, when its a lack of horsepower problem.

This isn't a laptop. Everything else works great, better than the laptop I was running before. The transparancies look fine, they're just in the wrong places. It's no a horsepower issue, it's a mis-built product issue. When it's run in OS X, everything runs fine. XP, not so great. Common denominator, XP.

But forget it, I've deleted my account since I can't play on my computer.

Thanks for all the help folks, it was fun while it lasted.  :salute

Ah so this is a dual boot machine, then your trouble is not with Aces High II, its with your machines configuration. From what you have stated I am gathering you have a Pentium loaded MAC. There are probably some compatibility issues between directx and your MAC hardware. I would start there, or even better contact MAC and ask them about the issues you are having.. they will probably be able to help you a lot better than we can.

Not to muddy the waters, but I see the same anomolies on my Windows based laptop computer.  It's a Compaq.  I don't think it's an operating system issue.

The problem is not the laptop, per se, it is the Intel video chip.  We do the best we can to work around all the problems with the Intel video devices, but there are some we simply cannot work around without breaking a lot of other things for everyone else.

Even Intel does not claim thier video chips are good for running anything DirectX related.  They have a rather long list of games that will not run at all.

Newer is not alwayd better, especially when it pertains to video. Ther Intel video chip is a $2 solution.  It runs MS Word well enough.
