Coot, if I'm not mistaken.  I use the term "Waterfowl" when I'm not sure.

They are not a duck, but look like one.    They don't really fly, more like run across the water flapping their wings.

Rip's right, it's a coot (related to the moorehen). They don't have webbed feet. You almost got a picture of one flying, which would have actually been a very rare photo, but alas the "quack" ruined it. Bad bird identifier. Bad bad bad.

There was some that flew in a way, but that was from a bank and went 20 feet or so into the water. There was some mallards out there too but I didnt see one good enough for a picture. (Not to mention that I had to go back to work instead of taking pictures off the clock all day)
