Titusville Air Show 2008
« on: March 23, 2008, 06:17:00 PM »
One of my other hobbies is WW2 reenacting (in other words, historians dress as WW2 soldiers, pilots, etc. for special events).  I recently participated as a 101st Airborne Screaming Eagle and had the opportunity to pose for pics with the C-47 "Tico Belle" which towed gliders and carried troops on D-Day, and also starred in the film "The Longest Day".

Since most of the crowds are attracted to planes with guns, and the C-47 doesn't have any, we figured we'd spend some time posing for pics with the general public at the C-47 to generate public interest and maybe help the museum's donation drive a little.  We recreated the famous pic of Eisenhower giving his speech to the Screaming Eagles, and of the Filthy 13 painting their warpaint in front of the plane, and a few others.

Click on this amazing, totally-pro quality photo of the F-15 to access my album:

The photos are a little out of order because I was having issues with the webshots website.  The reenactment shots are near the end of the album.  In the group shot, I'm the guy all the way to the left with his helmet off.

Enjoy!

I've been to some pretty big air shows (Macdill AFB, Lakeland's Sun n Fun) and I have to admit that the Titusville show was a lot of fun and very well done - lots of static displays, custom cars, vendors, and whatnot.  There was plenty to see on the ground and in the air, but since I was a participant I only got to take pics early in the morning and in the late afternoon during the Grand Finale(s).  It was good show, even without the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels (which I've seen many times).  Next year we're going to do a public battle utilizing jeeps, half-tracks, armed motorcycles, scout cars, etc. so the 2009 show should be even better.
