Auto Updater not working
« on: March 21, 2008, 10:34:52 AM »
Auto updater would not launch for me at all. I had version 2.11 patch 3 so i was up to date basically.

Not finding anythinfg specific to my problem I scanned other posts and ultimately heard that I could just download the full game (version 2.12 Patch 2 over my existing game (without uninstalling prior version). I did so and it worked perfectly. I did not lose any saved game/stick/view/convergeance settings by doing this which was my concern as I don't know how to save those as some others do.

I have Vista so I did have to reset compatibility but otherwise it was a turn key deal for me.

Thought I would post this as a topic to help others find what I had to hunt for.

Great Update HTC! Loving the P39 and the new Navy!! Skeered to death of the Wirblewind! :salute

I stall after the updater starts then go back to the login screen. Try again. "Would you like to resume?"  Yes. Bytes downloaded increase by 13312. Stalled. Back to login screen.

Each attempt increases my downloaded bytes by 13312.

1024 x 13 = 13312

Rig stripped down to like 23 processes. Even tried Direct to Internet bypassing my router. Kicker is I hauled out my old 'puter and it did the same thing.
I have been having problems getting updates after I get to the tower since Christmas so I imagine this is more of the same. I guess I will download the whole game and give that a try.  :pray

That should do it for you. Just install the current full game over your existing without uninstalling and all settings should remain for you.

I would expect issues with the auto-updater for many hours after we release a patch, but they should settle down after a few hours.

Yep, worked like a charm. Didn't even need to copy back the settings. At least in XP.

Thanks Skuzzy,

I thought I was the administrator as I am on the admin user etc as opposed to user. It always asks for my password to DL/install etc so I assumed. My way worked for the same outcome ultimately and I was pleased that I didn't lose settings. Vista suxor! Lye-El has XP though...same issue?

Lye-El's issue is different.

If you disable UAC, then you will not have to deal with all the things that Vista puts in your way to do things.

Trouble with disabling UAC is it can mess up already installed applications and require them to be re-installed again.

Thanks as always for your help Skuzzy. Now could you rebuild my good comp for me so I can hit what I aim at again?  :devil
Flying with this old/backup COMP is like watching original guncam footage  :( Yes, the backup has vista on it as I got it from a friend who owed me.
