This idea might not be overly popular with a lot of folks, but here goes… How about changing the base capture mechanics to require a full platoon of infantry (20 or 25 instead of 10)?
The furballers aren’t likely to mind, because it would possibly slow the rate at which bases change hands.
The strat players might like it, because it might require a little more work and cooperation to capture a base.
Other players might like it because it would allow HTC to expand the transport category of aircraft a bit. They could up the C-47’s troop load to a more accurate 20+ troops, while adding a couple of new airframes that carry different amounts of troops. Such as…
Junkers Ju 52 – Transport (Germany)
Max speed: 178mph
Armament: 1x 13mm trainable rearward firing MG, 15+ troops or supplies.
Armstrong Whitworth Albemarle – Transport (United Kingdom)
Max speed: 265mph
Armament: 2x .303in trainable MGs in dorsal position, 10+ troops.
And possibly even the Storch as an airborne equivalent of the Jeep…
Fieseler Fi 156 Storch – STOL Recon/Liaison (Germany)
Max speed: 109mph (Min speed: 32mph)
Armament: 1x 7.92mm trainable rearward firing MG, 1 or 2 soldiers for base capture.
The catch being that the Storch would have to land to offload it’s troop(s).
Upping the number of troops required seems like a relatively easy thing to do… although any new aicraft would, understandably, take a while to implement.
