I agree there should be a safe landing zone anywhere within the base limits use the base deminsions as it shows on the maps. However if this area is to large it can be adjusted accordingly. Ive bailed out just off a friendly base and been considered captured now thats a drag.

This won't be put in, because it is a chain...

HTC would allow landings anywhere on field
people whine they ditch 2 feet off runway
HTC would allow landings 5 feet off runway
people would whine when they ditch 20 feet off the runway
Chain reaction, eh?

No, it would not have to be. Honestly it is mighty stupid to roll on the grass and get a ditch while you are inside the base  :furious

What is ditch?
A forced landing, a belly landing, an emergency landing. Not a perfect landing on grass some feet a way from the runway.

They could put a fence around the base, like there often was in RL. That could be the perimeter and line between landing and ditching. Even then, I would personally call wheels up landings, even inside the base area, ditches.
If the wheels are down and one is inside the perimeter, the only "landed succesfully"  :rock

Here's the issue with your boxes and such, you have to draw the line at some point, people will always be wanting it to expand just a little bit more, and a little bit more.  HTC settled this by putting their foot down and saying, "ON THE RUNWAY OR NOTHING!"

I still think that the airfield boundary should be the cut off-line, but whatever... it's all good.

I'm sure it was that way a few years ago... I could be wrong tho, was once before  :D

That "if they get this they want more" attitude is pure BS.. maybe HTC just did not consider it any further than what was easy to do at that point. There is nothing wrong in wishing changes or making changes that make sense.

thats just it dont expand or shrink it just make it the size of the box around the base no bigger no smaller doesnt have to be complicated. Let them whine about makein it bigger most would be happy just to get it the size of the box around the base.

again its just preachin to the choir

Llogan has a point...

IMHO if you stop an aircraft or vehicle within the perimeter (the flat area that defines a base) of any base (Air, Vehicle or Port) it should not be recorded as a "ditch".

In WW2 if you made it back to base and walked away, it was a successful landing.

My primary flight instructor was fond of saying that "any landing you can walk away from is a successful landing.

A lot of people had problems making the switch from Air Warrior to Aces High on this issue.

Back on Air Warrior, landing anywhere on the airfield was a successful landing.  If you bailed out over your own airfield it was a successful landing.

Not here.

What we REALLY need is the actual paramiters on what a successful landing in a gv is.  I don't even bother to take Tigers up anymore, I always take them back to the spawn point and I always get a "You have ditched".

Because the Spawn Point has not anything to do with save landings. It's just a point where you spawn, not a landing zone.

In enemy territory, you can land everywhere as long as A) no enemy is around and b) you are not damaged.

In friendly territory, landing on concrete always ensures a safe landing (unless you are still moving). If undamaged yet, you will get a ditch if you are not on concrete and there are any enemies are around.

Personally, I consider any GV im in as lost when spawning to an enemy base. The chances to get back alive are pretty slim unless it's offpeak hours and no defenders show up, or we capture that base.

I think it is funny, both ways.

It is funny that people complain so match about something they knew was there while coming in for a landing.  I mean comon, so your name was not in lites one time.

At the same time, it is funny that HT picked to draw the line where he did and refuses to make it anywhere in the base using the "they will ask for more" logic.  So what if they did?  They whine now don;t they?  :rofl

Dont hold your breath, guys.

And the real answere for why it is not changing.

Landing is suppose to be a goal, wanting to survive and make it back to base, and acctualy land on the runway is suppose to be a challeng. Making the area bigger just dimishises the reward for accomplishing a task. So those requesting bigger areas, are you saying you suck so bad , you can't even land your plane on a runway?
