Indestructable Lancs....
« on: March 31, 2008, 11:17:16 AM »
I unloaded my P39Q last night in MW on a triad of lancs... saw sprites and pieces coming off. I'd say more than half the canon rounds were on target but they showed absolutely no damage.

You can do the same with much larger rounds. I've unloaded 6-8 MK108 30mm rounds into lancasters with no visible damage.

The popgun on the P39? Forget it. I don't think it CAN take down bombers. Vs fighters it's great. But I have to pop some fighters 2x, and IL2s 3+ times to get catastrophic damage.

In general, that's one reason I want the lancs redone, so this UFO damage model goes bye-bye and we get a realistic one. On the other, I think you just experienced a long-running problem coupled with a weak-arse cannon.

So I am not the only one who thinks the Lancs are the real flying fortresses ingame? :D.

As far as redoing, I'm not so sure that would solve anything. The F4U's are almost a new spit now.  :D

B17s used to be a lot stronger, also used to never catch fire. As they are remodeled, the damage system is re-mapped and re-built to fit the new model.

A re-modeled lancaster would at least catch fire, would accept the rounds shot into it, and wouldn't have so many tiny black holes that swallow damage up with no result.

That's why I want it, because it means they remodel the damage on it.

P.S. The B-26s sometimes have similar issues, but it's way worse on the lancasters.

P.P.S. To illustrate the issue with lancs, I popped one in the wing with a B-25H's 75mm gun. It was close enough inboard that I was expecting the blast radius to blow up the entire plane instantly (like a rocket) but instead it just lost a wingtip only. It spiraled out and I got a kill, but it was very lackluster.

I too have noticed that the Lancs seem hader to shoot down had my 262 600 of the rear & counted a total of 4 hits on one 3 hits on second 1 on third & nothing? of course lost the 262 from several hits to both engines it would not have happened if the planes had of dropped out of the sky as they should have.

hmm, I'll have to pay attentions next time I see lancs, and see how hard they are to put down.

I usually have no problem with lancs... but this was wierd.
Of course with the problems introduced with the last patch who knows.
Didn't even fly an hour tonight because of screen freezes. Gets old quick.
