Off the wall custom skins, for the DA....

So I was writing a short story for one of my English class's that was about a world where dog fighting like we see in Aces High was something you see every day. If you have played the XBox game Crimson Sky's you will know what i am talking about, but with real airplanes. The main character, Luke Langley (totally random name I came up with), flew a P-38L that had a custom paint job. I then made is plane just for fun as an skin for AH. A few friends thought it looked cool and asked if it could be used on line.(they dont play AH (Yet)) I said no because it is not a real paint job, just some thing I made up. Here is what I made, dont hurt me:

About an hour after showing it off, while doing the dishes, I came up with a little idea. What if we could upload 2-3, and only 2-3 skins of our own, non historical, just totally our own to show off. They would auto download so every one else could see them. Now I say 2-3 because I dont want to fill every ones hard drive. There could be a way to report inappropriate skins.


I say they only be used in the dueling arena.

And now I am out of ideas....

I'm sure some1 would make a skin that is invisable.

But yea, I'd make a Blink 182 skin or a +44 skin.

But the idea was, you make 3 of your own skins and upload them. We can all see you flying them, but only you can use them.



And yes, that is a race car type skin I made. 23 is my favorite number and I tried to make it look just utterly mean.


The idea is you make a skin that represents you in some way. If its in your favorite colors, or with you name on the wing. So your plane is YOUR plane. And any one you shoot down knows it was you.  You could even poke fun at people. One skin idea i had was on the wings big red arrows pointing at the cockpit saying "SHOOT HERE!"

It would be up to you on how you made your 3 skins. But if you made one that was inappropriate you would lose your rights to make your own skin for a week.

"BUT HTC IS NOT GOING TO WATCH EVERY ONES SKINS!!" Thats why they add a button in the roster where it says "Report Radio" and "Report Text" a button that says "Report Skin."

I know some bombers have some M rated nose art, and that might be ok to have some thing like that on the nose of your plane. But if you plane is rated XXX then you would get "Skin Baned."  (<---- LOL new word thing)


I say only have these skins in the Dueling arena, but for the AH racing they could also be used.

While I applaud you coming up with new ideas to try and help improve the game, I'm afraid that I don't think this would be beneficial at all. 

One, like you've said, HTC wouldn't be able to watch all of the skins being created, so people can make whatever skins they want, or even add ones that make them invisible.  I don't think HT will risk losing paying subscribers becuase someone make a skin that blatantly offended someone.

Also, you can't even reply on people to report bad skins.

And the biggest con going against this idea, is that it's going to turn the game into more of an "air quake" mentality, which has already taken over a lot of people.  This isn't what the game is about, per say...  I just really don't think that it would be a good direction for the game to take, even if it is only limited to the DA.

I thought of this from an artistic point of view. I am sort of a graphic artisit and play around with photo shop a bit, so when I thought of this I was aiming art the artsy players of AH. To see what kinds of crazy planes people would fly.

Thank you for actually responding with thoughtfulness and intelligence as opposed to saying "but it would be so cool..."

I still think it would go against the main idea of the game.

I also think that it would be to hard for HT and crew to monitor.  They just don't have the manpower to be able to keep up with all of the skins people would submit, the ones they had to review, and also worry about potential abuse of the system, and bad frame rates which could come about from outrageously lavish pictures/colors/etc.  If they did have the time, we would already have seen CT come out, more planes/gvs modeled and in the game, etc...etc.

On a side note, I believe it is possible to fly whatever skin you want off line.  You'll have to check the skin site for details and specifics, but I believe you just make a folder which a certain name and description and drop it into the skins folder and you'll be able to use it.  You just wouldn't be able to use it online as it would have to be approved by HTC, and anything that's non-historical won't be.

If i remember right from H2H(Their basically the same). The skin has to be built into the map.

I know off line practice you can, but I some times play a little 1v1 lan with my little brother on his computer and I made him a skin on his comp.

It would be cool, sure, but everyone would have to download your particular skins in order to see them. Think of how many hundreds of people play, multiply that number by three, and that's how many custom skins you would have to download, if everyone created three.
