As I recall, the Coader himself has said that random debris is an effect, not part of the actual aircraft. On the other hand, anything attached to the enemy pilot IS considered an enemy object and is subject to collision rules. So, after blasting away and leaving only the cockpit -- you can fly through the wings and empennage, but if you hit the cockpit remains you've got collisions. Parachutes? Same thing. Having spent
If you shoot off a bomber wing and "collide with it" the most likely thing happening is that the plane has rolled sharply to the weak side (less lift on bad side, good side rises). you're probably hitting the still attached wing root of the bomber that's rolled toward you, with maybe a little lag effect that throws off what you're seeing.
