As per several places, including the game now, you can run the auto-updater for the game.  You simply have to right-click on the Aces High II startup ICON and select the "Run as administrator" option.  The auto-updater will work then.  Do not run the game in this mode, just use it for updates.

I tried the using that method and the auto updater still didnt work FYI.
