I'm sure kalifornia loses alot of business because of their laws where only criminals can have guns. My inlaws were traveling the country last summer and decided against going into the kali zone because of their laws against upstanding citizens with ccw. They turned north and just considered kali a foreign country. They were on a 3 month tour.

That's too bad- there's alot to see here, and in nearly 60 years I still haven't seen it all. We are the most diverse State, and from Death Valley to Yosemite to the Coast Redwoods to Tahoe there's a beautiful country to explore.

But then again that's the problem we have with our image- people from Middle America- good, God fearing, right wing conservative Christian people- read horror stories about gang shootings, drive bys, etc., and it scares them.

I could suggest to your in laws they skip the tour of Watts and Compton, as there's not much to see there anyway, and instead focus on the natural beauty we have but- why? I gave up trying to educate the ignorant long long ago, so if some people are so fearful, so afraid of visiting California then great- by all means, spend that extra two weeks touring North Dakota or Iowa- there's an awful lot to see in those States, too, if you're into the world's largest ball of string- and avoid California all together. After all, the entire State is controlled by either gang bangers or old hippies.

Is Spanish the official language of Kali yet?

Makes 'em cling to their religion, guns, and illegal alien phobias too.

Religion is good, guns are fun and illegal aliens are the only way to go if you need help building a fence.

You obviously ain't an Obama supporter, except on the building fences part. Of course if he has his way we're gonna need a whole new batch of slaves, er, undocumented workers since those here won't be interested in working for peanuts once they are given amnesty.

It's not necessary to be good, god fearing or christian to enjoy California. I am none of those things and I've enjoyed my visits enormously. :D

What would help, though, is half a brain to understand the demography and that gangbanging is largely (but not exclusively) confined to urban ghettos. In LA, that would be as you said - Compton, Watts and similar areas. In the SF bay area, it would be the Mission district, the Western Addition, and much of Oakland. But get 50 miles north of SF and you'd be pretty much free of gangbangery right up to the OR state line.

That's true enough. I used to have to run loads' out of the Oakland-SFO area, took naps' in the sleeper there overnight a few times. Never got bothered, either.

However, the funniest( and most ironic part, too) is that even if you just judge by what other's say on this board, There are parts of Miami, Virginia, Baltimore, Texas, etc. That are even worse than places' in California. I'm thinking that 'urban legends' have really taken root.

I will admit that there are parts' of LA I don't wish to stay in too long. But you find that in every city in the U.S.

kalifornia is a great place to live so long as you are willing to break a whole lot of stupid laws every single day of your life.   Northern kalifornia if much better than communist southern kalifornia.. the state should be split in two..  even in Northern kalifornia tho you need to not be too near any population centers.

people jammed together like rats in crap hole cities make people nutty.. they produce democrats.

Lasz, San Fransisco, and Berkely, are in NorCal. LA's a toejamhole, but it's in a dirty, dingy urban sort of way. SF has all the weirdos. Cruise around Haight-Ashbury if you need a reminder.

I believe that I said that you need to not be too near population centers.. the entire bay area is as bad as LA.

There are lots of small and medium sized towns in kalifornia that are pleasant.    You just need to be able to break/ignore dozens of laws every day in order to live well.
