I used to be in CAP as a youngin....
I was 207 outta the Tobyhanna army depo in PA.
They said "learn to fly" yeah righ.....
Hawk Mtn. Encampment East at Willow Groves and not to mention the hours of tedious boring studies/lectures oh yeah and paying dues....
Hmmm. we never even LOOKED at one of the supposed planes we were to learn on.
That and the AF Col. that was one of the officers there his daughter was the highest ranking cadet not to mention the favorite for EVERYTHING!
Bah, humbug.....
Got certified as a ranger 2nd class (never even went on one search and rescue) and had various other things, like I said did a bunch of things. But fly was not one of them. I still think they do not need to get paid to decieve teens like that.

But yeah, can't go to this airshow in Wilmington. I am going to the one in Winston Salem NC this summer.
well....i'm sorry your experience was like that........i've personally set up over 2 dozen orientation flights for my cadets, i've gotten them on tours at McGuire AFB..even in the control tower, we set up scenarios for them.....my favorite was when we hid a practice ELT about 3/4 of a mile off the end of the runway and called them out for a downed piper........they never found us, but gpt dasmned close.....and they learned why they didn't find us.
i've also personally been on a couple searches, as a mission scanner....if you're still in PA, you might remember that helicoptor that went down just off of the atlantic city expressway......i flew on 2 sorties for that......1st looking, 2nd directing a ground team in from the air.
we try ALWAYS to keep our cadets excited......even if it's something totally un-related to CAP. we had them learning archery last fall, as they needed a break from the same old routine.
i was director of transportation for CAP at last year's airshow....and will be again this year......last year we had 1500 CAP personel. the ONLY ones that were hard to work with were the PA guys.....one group left....and with their attitudes, we were etter off without them.....anyway.....if you're in a situation to have the time, why not check out a local squadron? you could use your training to help todays cadets.....and prevent them from feeling bad about it like you did......just a thought. i don't think i do much there, but when i see one of my cadets get to interview thunderbird pilots, and suddenly, she seems more confident in herself...well.....i'm prettyh frigin proud of what i do in cap.
