I was going to say solar10 but he has already posted on this thread. He is about the best dog fighter with a mossie that I have seen in the game.

I believe the Mossie is the best mission plane in the game. The RAF historically accurate missions I run in them have been 100% successful. The problem is getting guys that want to fly them, its simply Hell getting these guys out of 110s. My RAF missions feature Mossies with 8 rockets and 500lbs's in the bomb bay for GVs, "and all that MG and cannon ammo", Typhies with all that cannon ammo and bombs, Goons in RAF skin, Spit-16s with 2 rockets and a slipper tank, and I even include Tempests, with all that cannon and extra fuel, for guys that want to fly a perk airplane.

1st pass is to take down guns with rockets and BLDNGs. Then just look at all that cannon taking down the town while Spits fly cap. If I need to I task some Typhies and/or Mossies to take out a VH.

Thing about the Mossie is its so fast, even in the grass. Except for the goons the entire mission is barreling along at 330+ mph NOE which makes it almost impossible for an enemy to react fast enough.

The Mossie is a one airplane wrecking crew and I love the thing. The problem is in getting guys to just try one once.

Ditch the bombs and it becomes worth flying, rich. Get the mossys as the fighter escort without the crippling ord and i'm your man.  :aok

I have read sever historical accounts in with FB.Mk VIs carrying bombs were escorted by FB.Mk VIs in fighter mode.  Also FB.Mk XVIIIs (57mm cannon version) were often escorted by FB.Mk VIs.

i can imagine it karnak, sounds like a very sensible way of doing things. in AH2 the mossy is about middle fo the road along side the spit16s and la7s. I would wager that in real life you did not want to be flying anywhere near a mosquito that was patroling as a light fighter. Day or night.

Well, the Mosquito was not at its best as a day fighter.  It could do it, but....

One account I have somewhere is an encounter between a squadron of FB.VIs returning from a strike mission getting into a mix up with a staffel of Fw190As.  End score: Eight Mosquitos shot down and four Fw190s shot down.  The Mosquitos weren't toothless, but they did get mauled badly.

Basically the Mosquito was used to escort the Mosquito not because it was tremendously good at it, but because there were only two aircraft that could even do it, the Mosquito and the Mustang.  Spitfires and Typhoons are much too short legged.

LOL before the wirbels came out I'd agree with you. Now tho???  :uhoh

I'll add that back in my 100% bomber days the Mossie was the only airplane I actually feared.

Bat, thrilla and Karnak all great mossie sticks (I cant recall running into solar10 in one). To be successful in the mossie I think you need to learn to exploit differential E state and the normal tendancies of your prey. The A-20 is even more of a wolf in sheeps clothing (to date I've never lost a 1 on 1 to a mossie or 110 ever in an A-20 in the MA {although its bound to happen}).

The initial thought when the pidgeon (er enemy pilot) see's the mossie is "dont let him get away" so the tendancy to keep fast. Bat exploits this tremendously in his "uber {force be with you} barrel roll offense" {others may be "defending" but Bats planning on killing you before your even in guns range}. I tend to go for the merge and look for the reverse that way since invariably the poor guy is afraid I'm just trucking all thru. A great ruse is to fly a good under merge but then "HO" from 1.5 or so. It takes away the thought you were "smart" and replaces it with "noob". I get alot of guys who give a me a lazy vertical then watch that A-20 rise up there @#$ like a helium balloon (mossie has similiar zoom).

Thats the real key to the mossie IMO...use the zoom to go E to angles then back to E...nothing outruns a center mounted sawzall attached to a 15,000 lb gunmount with a head of steam up :aok

I see I have a post from both Thrila and Karnak in the thread, Mechanic has offered to work with me in game when we can connect.  I was wondering if Thrila and/or Karnak (or anyone else who feels like they can offer Mossie wisdom) would be willing to field a forum PM or two of questions.

Thanks in advance

I'm more than happy to help.  I wont be flying very often for the 3-4 weeks because i have to study for my finals.  I'll be flying at euro hours so the latest i'll ever be on is 12am GMT+1, so don't hesistate to contact me if you see me online.

I did have a massive library of films on my old PC, i'll see if i can find any that may be of use to you.  If not i know i have a couple of old films that that are hosted on the net somewhere that i can show you.
