What, your agreement or opposition to the death penalty is if someone "deserves" it or not? And if you hear about a perticularly henious crime you're swayed in your convictions?

What happened to convictions like a civilized society doesn't use a death penalty? Or DNA evidence may someday clear a convicted? Or it costs more to execute someone than it does to warehouse them? Obviously you could make an argument that ANY cold blooded killer "deserves" to die, and I agree- but do they deserve to die at the hands of society?

I can think of a dozen different arguments both pro and con on the death penalty, and "deserving" to die isn't one of them, not from either POV.

The problem we have in liberalism is we've attracted people to our cause who don't think of issues and form their own opinions- they "join up" because they think it's cool to be liberal, and maybe make a protest sign with half the words spelled wrong and join the rest of the non thinkers picketing the Marine Corps recruiting office in Berkeley.

Of course the conservatives have the same problem, judging by the right wing discombobulated nonsencical posts made here, but I don't expect Conservatives to think- liberals, however, I hold to a higher standard.

I have plenty of reasons for being against the death penalty.  You've listed many.  Ask for them next time instead of just knocking on someone, k?

There are fates far worse than death, and for me being locked up in a cage for the rest of my life would be far worse than knowing when and where I was going to die.

As for the death penalty I am for it. I believe that if you commit a crime that is henious enough you should be put down, just like a rabid dog would be put down.

The only issue I see in the way that the death penalty is used in the U.S.A. is that it does not seem to be the same way for all people ie. more blacks receive the death penalty than whites, woman are almost never given the death penalty even though some are just as deserving, if not more so than there male conterparts.

Now I don't think that the death penalty should be imposed like it is in China where you can be executed for things like drug abuse, or government officials excepting bribes.

Thats one thing I dont like. Most people who get it did horrible crimes where the victim suffered. Why do we feel the need to render them unconscious before puting them down. Id like to see it where they get the same as they did to thier victim or let the family of the victim punish them how they see fit.

I think it would be very fitting if they let the victims family decide how the offender would be delt with.

I always believed that "Cruel and Unusual Punishment" wasn't an absolute statement, but a relative statement.
