The death of Socialism will be the hardest task the Human Race will ever have to commit to.

I don't have an opinion for a goal of humans,
only know death awaits us all.
resistance is futile.
you will be assimilated.
what was, is.
what is, will be.
what will be. is a completion of a universal cycle.
the sun will rise till it rises no more.
forever.
And 200 million years from now an astronomer on a planet thousands of light years from here will be searching the night sky looking for habital planets, rocky worlds.  He will detect a slight wobble in the infared spectrum and xrays emitted from a distant neutron star and will declare he has found a new planet outside their solar system but its a dead, cold world, a lifeless rock...

Hehe.
Well, my cents on this anyway....
Nowadays it's all about energy.
And far ahead it's about survival. Our Terra firma will not stay static as far as we know, it will go through cycles of warm and cold, and such, but as far as theory goes, our sun will eventually burn out. And before it does, it will have us for roast....
So, the important answer is...survival?
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

I would think that for you athiests.... the biggest goal would be to prolong your lives and be as healthy as you could while getting as much pleasure as possible.

If this is all there is... fear of death would be the overriding factor.   perhaps a legacy at some point when you realize science won't let you live forever.  in any case.. fear is the common denominator.

The question is, "what do you think is the most important goal for mankind"?

No Lazs.. Fear is the common denominator so long as it trumps purpose and duty in people's minds.
A while back there was a thread about a girl who sacrificed herself to save her younger sister, while in the control of a kidnapper/hostage taker.  A lot of people said she was examplary in her courage.  All I saw, on the other hand, was duty and integrity.
It's not courage or some last minute faith that would, if I was atheist rather than agnostic, make me jump out of my foxhole and charge into danger, it's duty.  Remove all fear and all you have left isn't courage, because courage is only there to counter fear.  If all you have is incorruptible duty, purpose is what guides you.

ok..for athiests.. the most important goal for "mankind" would be to prolong human life for as long as possible.

moot.. I would say that what made her do it was something that science can't measure.   I would say it was love.

That's not why I'd have done it.. I don't do things because I love, I do things because each choice is "right".  Emotions are a sure way to corrupt reason. Who knows why she did it, though.
And, however long 'atheists' prolong life as we know it.. It's still infinitely small compared to infinity next to god in the afterlife.

If you have to think about it then it will be too late.   If you live long enough you will regret  the (hopefully) few times in your life where you let reason get in the way of action.  99% of the time tho.. reason is the way to go... 99% of the time you have lots of time to figure it out the best you can.

An example.. going to the aid of someone who is being beaten by 3 guys.. vs... jumping into a "do something" about the theory of man made global warming and if it even exists or even if there is anything worthwhile to be done.
