Future of MA Mapmakers?
« on: March 21, 2008, 12:08:46 PM »
Where is the game heading and will new, community made, MA maps be needed in the near future?

This question is more for HTC but there was a suggestion in the Wishlist Forum about having different field layouts.  You can do what you want with special-uses maps but are limited to stock shapes/layouts for any MA-uses maps.  I have wanted another small airfield – dirt strip, map room (no town), couple of VHs, FHs, and maybe no or medium only bombers – that would bridge the gap between the vehicle base and small airfield.  But is the MA style of play going to continue in the future where these additions to stock field layouts are worth asking for?  Getting new equipment such as the Wirbelwind and B-25 seem like a lot of work to me.  Adding a few different field types doesn't look that hard.  The fact that it has not be done makes me wonder what the future holds for MA mapmakers.  New equipment will continue to be used when field layouts and their MA maps may not.

Edit: When I said that they have not come up with different field layouts yet, I meant over the years and not in reference to the suggestion in the Wishlist Forum.  They came up with 5 (3 airfields, a vehicle base, and port) and then stopped.  I consider ships as equipment so Japanese and British carriers may happen.  So I’m wondering why some effort has not been put into additional fields.

Just for the sake of variety, or for new gameplay dynamics?  I think a field between v-base and small airfield like you describe would be cool. :)

Indeed. I think we could call it a Front line base, or Assault Base.

ive always thought that spawn points from bases should have some sort of "camp" kinda like the old cammo netting VH from AH1.

also recon planes for GV bases, then you could "spot" for your GV's

You can place a small runway object next to a GV field and attach it to that field and enable only a certain type of plane
to be used as a scout.......

if you remember the screen shots for Combat Tour that does show a grass airfield.

but a small rough dirt strip with a couple of prefab hangers  would be good on some
of the smaller islands near vh bases.Give these a limited supply of light bombers and fighters and it could add
something new to the game.

I like this idea but I would have to add that the "limited supply" would have to be truely limited. Say after 10 bombers/fighters from those bases have been shot down, have them unavailable for about 30 minutes to an hour. And if all 10 are in the air, no more could take off from the base.

Remote air bases were truely limited in operation in WWII. What we have now, where there's an unlimited supply of planes at all fields wouldn't fit properly with a remote grass airfield.

Not remote airbases so much as "Fighter Strips" that were seperate from the main established bases for the very reason we could sure use them in AH.

One set of bombers comes in and kills the fighter hangers.  Fighter strips away from the main field and it's not so simple.  I'd wish the same for VHs.  More then one so that it's not one pass and there goes the fight.

Imagine the main base with bombers and fighters enabled.  Then two fighter strips set away from the main airfield.  Just fighters enabled but there to help the defenders at least have a chance to mount a defense before the hangers die.

To kind of make it a little more challenging and fun, make it where such small bases as we speak of are NOT visible on the map to the other 2 countries.  (Ex. you see it on the map but the others dont)  That would make people have to actually go out and find the small bases

To go with what NHAWK has said if you fly a plane in and land it safely
that could add to that airfields roster.

I like dans idea as a small number of fighters were often disperced to smaller fields
to make them harder targets.
