A few weeks ago my roommate and I hosted a couch surfer.
Couch surfing is a relatively new concept that allows travelers from across the world to use your couch for the night(s). Couch surfing is a web based network similar to Facebook. People's profiles include their likes and dislikes, as well as references of their previous stays. If you want a more indepth explanation of this go to couchsurfing.com.
My roommate started the couch surfing endeavor. A few months ago he traveled to Europe for St. Patricks day. While there he couch surfed the entire time. He met other couch surfers from all around Europe. He got to see a different side of Dublin other than the normal tourist experience. It was an amazing experience for him.
Anyways, we had a thirty something married female from New York stay at our house. She was toward the beginning of her 3 month journey across the United States. The goal of her trip around the country is to record her experiences and write about them in her journal/blog. At the conclusion of her journey she hopes to develop a one-woman show based on her experiences. As hosts we gave her a tour around Omaha, showing her some of the cool things. Our main activity was spending time at the Henry Doorly Zoo (The 2nd best zoo in the country). After that we grabbed food at a local eatery. Overall, it was an extremely positive experience and I would totally do it again.
What do you guys think about it? Would you ever consider opening your couch up for visitors?
