Internet Woos and Woes
« on: June 09, 2008, 10:43:26 AM »
My computer is telling me it is connected to the internet, but I cannot load any paes on my web browser, or open any internetbased programs. I checked the connection and it is all connected, I even have wireless and tried connecting to a neighbor's unsecured network, nothing. I am thinking this problem lies in my computer, but don't know where to look.

Check your network connections / local area connection / properties / TCPIP if you have a properly configured TCP/IP settings. Sounds like your computer doesn't get a valid IP / Gateway / DNS information from DHCP.

Are you connected to a wireless router?  My laptop is (Linksys) and every once in a while I have to re-set and refresh the connection.  I'm not sure why but when I do it's usually re-set the encryption from 128 bit to 64 bit and I have to set it back.  You might also try power cycling your router and cable/DSL modem.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.
