The defualt skin is nothing like that.

It's a yellow '1' from JG 52 but that's where the similarity ends.

No, Xasthurs right. Despite that they have similar mottling, Hartmanns aircraft has the proper 'squiggly line' Gruppe bar that along with being yellow denotes that the aircraft is of 9./JG52, while the default skin has a horizontal Gruppe bar that shows it of 6./JG52. Also, the default skin has standard Balkenkruez while the one you posted has the later-war toned down markings. The mottling patterns are similar and that threw me off. (along with being Yellow 1).
I am starting on a Hartmann Bf.109G14, however.

If the only difference is a 10-pix-square gruppe badge and a gruppe symbol, but the rest of it is nearly identical....

er....

Kind of like 2 identical P-51Ds, only one had a red trim on its tail fins, and the other has a different kind of red trim on its rudder...

99% identical, as I used to like saying. Not worth skinning, IMO, unless you make sure it's different (that is, use them thar skinnin' skillz!). Just make it NOT look like the default, and all will be well

I believe there is already a white Hartmann G14.

There is, by Krusty. But its from his time as Geschwaderkommodore of JG53, the one I have is the G14 he scored his 297-301st kill sortie in as Staffelkapitan of 9./JG52 (the 'Karayaherz').
