This scum bag wants to run for Congress as a "Minnesota Democrat", even though he hasn't lived in the state or bothered visiting until now when he wants to be our senator.   What a pc of crap, the only thing sadder than him will be those stupid enough to vote for him.

AP: Franken To Pay $70K In Back Taxes In 17 states
ST. PAUL (AP) ―

Senate candidate Al Franken says he will pay about $70,000 in back income taxes in 17 states where he earned income going back to 2003.

The Minnesota Democrat has been under attack by Republicans for failing to file tax returns in California for several years that he earned money there.

Franken tells The Associated Press he never intended to avoid paying taxes. He says during the years in question, he paid his entire income tax bill to the city and state where he lived.

Franken says he did this on the advice of his accountant, but he takes responsibility. Franken says after he pays off the back taxes, he plans to file for credit on taxes overpaid in the city and state where he lived when he filed.

Franken says he's releasing the new information to be transparent about his mistakes. And he says he "would like to get back to talking about the lives of the people of Minnesota and the issues this campaign is about."

Could he vote in 17 states?

Taxation without representation is tyranny.

I'm more angry at the tax man.

Sounds like he was paying to me,  the local government didn't give it back.

So, why should he feel the need now to pay the back taxes?  If he honestly believed he should not have to pay them, he should stick by his convictions.

Yeah, we understand where you're coming from.  In fact, to save you a little time, whenever you feel like ranting on aimlessly, you can just put up a one-word post; "Liberals."  We'll all get it and our collective knowledge will have been advanced at an equal measure.

Tomorrow I'll go look it back up, but looks like what he did was this:
Instead of paying federal taxes, he payed the entirely of his taxes at the local levels.
Now he's going back & paying federal taxes... and as a result, going to file to have returned to him the overpayment which he made at the time they were paid to the local folks.

I don't think that's it, texasmom. If you're paid by someone living in another state for services rendered in that state, then you owe that state income tax on that money. You litterally have to file a state income tax return for each and every state you did this in. It looks like he just took his annual income and filed it with one state instead of breaking it up. This is something that a small percentage of people have to worry about as most are paid by the same company even if work is performed in a seperate state. I'm very curious as to why a CPA would recomend he do this. He'd still have to file a federal tax return in addition to the single state filing. There's no way to pay your federal return to the state.

As for electing someone who's never been a part of your state into congress... well you get what you deserve.
