Full Visual Display for Joined Passenger in Fighters
« on: May 25, 2008, 09:56:00 PM »
Would it be possible to fully slave a pilot's cockpit gauges and gunfire to a joined passenger's display?

As a trainer for my squadron and one who assists new pilots in the TA, I've often had pilots join my aircraft and visa versa, to help demonstrate and talk them through manuevers.  However, not being able to see the actual airspeed, altitude and throttle movement of the aircraft while joined makes it more difficult to help slower pilots learn how to execute manuevers.  Also, not being able to see gunfire makes it impossible to help someone with their gunnery.

Getting the same RT visual as the pilot would allow a trainer to help with the timing of manuevers and gunnery.  This in turn would better help new pilots improve their skills quicker and keep them flying.

I would also like to see this.... whenever I go to learn some tactics from my squadmates I want to see what they're seeing from their eyes, and perhaps the most important part is the gun deflections, with the instruments being secondary.   Even if this is only available in training arena and/or duel arena, I feel it is a huge asset to learning the game.

I know that when we reviewed this feature for a "sim far ago and long away" the issue is that the "join" feature uses the same informational packets that go from the FE to the host, and much of the information that it might be nice to have is not sent to the host.  This would have meant modifying the host to handle additional information at significantly increased bandwidth requirements, or coming up with a peer to peer solution from "master" to "slave".

Not impossible, just more difficult than might seem on the surface.

I agree, I'm sure it would not be easy.

On the other hand, I'd love to be able to have a passenger "slaved" to my views, so they see what and where I am looking. Full gauges and gunnery would be another huge plus for training.

Big thumbs up from me, would certainly make my life easier.

Good Post Mr Sloehand sir. <S>

Actually, I would not slave view selection, but simply the cockpit gauges and gun tracers so that when the joiner looks at the forward view he has 'live' gauges that reflect what the aircraft is actually doing.  I think the joiner still needs the ability to look through the view he wants independent of the view of the pilot at the moment.

Actually sloehand we need both.

First all the data so that all gauges work, they see tracers, they see hit flashes same as we see.

Then a second dot command that would let us "slave" a trainee's views to ours.
Then they can see not only what move we made, but what we saw.
Ideally that would also lock them into the cockpit. (no jumping to a rear gun)
But it would be an additional Option sloehand, not the default.

A lot of new guys really do not get the whole up views thing. Another hard one is flying while watching back, back up, up, or up forward. If they could "SEE" how a good pilot does it. It would be easier for them to learn it.

I think it would be easier to incorporate more details in the films and make the film viewer a touch more.....errr.....user friendly? :)
