net status
« on: April 29, 2008, 11:18:15 AM »
Not sure what is going on here but.

I checked the box in videol settings for preloading skins and preloading textures. Now when I open net status in game it shows nothing. Is this supposed to be this way?

I am still messing around with settings trying to get my laptop to play game without warping. I can play offline very well. Offline I have 60 FPS steady whether I am in ground vis or full vis. It is the same in 8 player LAN, when someone from work and I play. However when I go online FPS drop into 30's and 40's and have lots of warping. This happens with skins and weapon effects disabled and unchecking all the optimizing boxes and moving the sliders to get the most FPS. Each time i seem to gain a little but no holy grail yet.

By the way. The offline and LAN FPS are with everything optimized and no preloading and sliders are default from game? The online FPS is with all optimizing unchecked and preloading is checked and sliders are tuned for maximum FPS possible.

edit: just re-checked what made the change.

It seems that unchecking the hardware vertexing is what makes the net status stop working.

Also the one thing I did different this time compared to others was I went into BIOS and changed the multicore support to off. This did seem to help with frame rates seems to have steadied them. I even have the compatability mode stopped right now and everything seems to work fine in game except for offline still which still seems to have gotten better just far from ideal. Any thoughts on this change. Any idea of any negative effects that could result.

thanks for all that have helped so far

Pre-loading skins is not a good idea unless you only have a few skins in your folder. With all the skins we have now you can run enough ram to hold it AND run the game. Pre-loading textures is ok with a couple gigs of ram. Post your Dxdiag, first third only is needed. List the in game settings your using as well as how your video card is set=up.

Laptops are notorious for NOT playing games well. Be sure to turn off any "power saving" settings.

i will post in a few minutes the in game settings and video card settings

as a side note though I think the problem is mostly the processor because I have 4 gigs of RAM and a 256 video card.

I also have processes down to 34-36 after running FSauto start. When playing offline I do not need to use the FSauto start and plays great but online is of course the problem.

Preload in System under textures is checked
I did uncheck the prload skins and the  others are unchecked as well

Once in the game under detail

the following are checked
Disable other plane skins
disable weapons effects
disable vehicle effects

the following are unchecked
Horizon
terrain mipmapping
transitions
optimize objects
optimize terrain

object detqail is set to faster
ground detail range is set to .5 miles
these I moved intil I got the best frame rates since I was not sure which way gives best performance.

video card settings

Anisotropic filtering: off
Antialiasing-gamma correction: off
antialiasing-mode:off
antialiasing-transparency:off
conformant texture clamp: use hardware
extension limit: off

This is unless there is another setting located somewhere that I have not found yet. I  have had this laptop for about 2 months now and constantly looking for ways to improve performance and just now found these adavanced settings. Thanks for your help.

Oh my.  Look at the number of hops you go through all in Comcast's network!  That's just poor networking structure right there.  I suspect it has to do with Comcast's packet shaping scheme they use which is more than just packet shaping.

Either that or they are tryng to consolidate thier access points to the Internet to reduce cost.

Or they just screwed up thier own routing tables.

I all the above, contact them about it.  And good luck.

I am sure that Comcast is not helping things any. I really do not like Comcast much but without any phone jacks or lines exposed inside the house there is not much I can do. Unless I break down and run some. I am sure I read somewhere that wireless or satellite broadband is worse.

Not really sure here, but if it was the internet that is causing my problem wouldn't this show up in my desktop as well.

I will try this again here at work later on. They are on DSL though I am not sure which carrier.

It does show up on your 'desktop' browsing, but is hidden from you by retries.  The game cannot retry and depends on packets being delivered in a timely manner.  Being real-time is the difference.

sorry i think i may have mislead you.

I was trying to say that wouldn't I also be seeing the problems with my desktop computer. The warping and irradic frame rates.

out of curiosity though #2 says that there is 100% packet loss wouldn't that mean that I am receiving nothing which would keep me from getting anything during gameplay?
