Italian AAR for Former Allies

Mission launch was delayed due to equipment problems. Phantom4 some how wound up as F6F lead.  We climbed north and then nw to 22k. Formed picket line between A33 and A24.  Flight was uneventful for about half an hour.  Moved Shadoogy over port - BD5Pilot orbited at A33 - and I headed southeast.  

About five minutes later flying at about angel 17, I spotted 2 109's 12 o'clock high(about 20K) near intersection of 7,8 and 8,9.
Quickly more contacts appear just to their east  --- JU-88's! Called the alarm - gave posistion of flight and turned back to wait for reinforcements. I was joined quickly by two 205's and BD5 in an F6F.  We evaded 109's and hit JU-88's hard.  I dove on the tail end bomber and opened up at about 500 yards. Held the trigger until his left wing exploded. Pulled up to avoid collision with wreckage and was hit (mid air collision) by a 109 diving on my tail.  Lost both stabilizors and both elevators.  Spiraling out of controll, I  get the silk.  The 109 went down also.  The fight moved away and I was unable to keep up with the action. All JU-88's were downed quickly and the remaining interceptors tangled for another 10 to 15 minutes.  We were able to down all but one German fighter. but we lost all of our aircraft.  I score it as a minor victory for the Italian forces as the bombers were all killed and the port was not bombed.   Unfortuantely, the Germans managed to down all our fighters with one of theirs escaping.

I counted at least 2 109s escaping from the fray.
They would have had twice that number if they hadn't loitered so long over the 88s at 33.  (and, if you count wilbus' freak 88 loss, 5 109s would have returned had they broken off the engagement).
It was chaotic and our interception wasn't as coordinated as it should have been.  So I just sent all the waves on the88s.  We were able to raise some serious hell before the 109s managed to get in there.

Thank to all pilots that attended and stuck around after the mass dump.
We also had some lower numbers due to the Easter Weekend.
I would like to see this event run again and change the airfields around. Maybe park the CV in one spot and spawn PT boats from there. This event has great potential.   Hindsight always being 20/20, I should have changed some things around. However, wasn’t too sure that the newbie CM should do that just yet.

Spectacular job ozark had a blast even that long haul to the port in the Ju88's made it realistic event.  We got to talking smack about pizza, women and drink otw to target to pass the time

There were at least 4 109s after me when I ran for ack cover at 33.  I saw the last 88
go down, and stuck around long enough to get a kill before the better part of valor took over.

In addition to KILL/ASSIST data, is it possible to get RTB info?   I think I was the only one of our flight to survive.  May have been an Italian victory, but at great cost!

not sure if this was snapshot i was in or not but I was ju88 FL and initially being told 7 were too many we ended up with 5xju88s but lost 2 to discos so you only tackled 3 bombers with a small escort.
hardly a difficult target however we did get within 30 miles of P32 lol
