.....has become the norm
as soon as the housing issue settles down, the credit card meltdown will begin - difference being i don't think they sold that pile of debt overseas like they did the shakey mortages

IMHO, you're gonna see credit cards' intermingled with this housing bubble issue-High mortgages' straining finances to the point, that it becomes' more tempting to get into the card, and that's just talking to some people I know. In a sense, that meltdown has started...

I gave a homeless woman up in Hayward a foot long subway sandwich today. Ya know why? One day, I might be down on my luck. Don't compare in here - because all suffering is just that.

latched on the government tit like a rabid pitbull on the mail man.

If I was the mailman I would worry more about the rabid welfare moma on the first of the month than I would the pit bull.

frode.. my point was that police and fire are eating up about 80% of the cities budgets here.. they are far from underpaid.  they have a relatively unskilled job that requires very little education and even less physical skill and are some of the least dangerous jobs on the planet.. they are not even in the top ten.  Teachers are also way overpaid for their skill level and the fact that they are part time workers getting full time salaries.

Most cities get more money from sales tax and industry than anything.. housing is a loser.  you get a lot to start but then it is a drag on the budget.   Housing does not really pay its share of the infrastructure.

Fire fighting isn't dangerous? do you run IN to the burning buildings? i know a few fire fighters, and yes, they are VERY skilled jobs. yes, they DO require recurrent training.  i had a friend  almost died when he fell through the floor, while looking for an occupant that was supposedly inside. the only thing that saved him was his beacon...it went off when he stopped moving, and led help to him. it gets disorienting inside a smoke filled dark building. i'm glad for people like him, as i know i couldn't do that. most police officers are highly trained too, although, sometimes they wast time with roadside checks. again, picture yourself doing a stop 2am, car has all tinted windows, and no back up available. you dont think that's dangerous? maybe you'd like to talk to a camden officer? or newark? miami?

now..overpaid people? actors, sports players, race car drivers, news casters(actors?), politicians. if you want to cut the budgets, then you need to get the local politicians that were giving themselves raises while the rest of us were struggling to now take pay cuts. they don't need to cut down on services, they just need to lower their own pay. problem is that'll never happen.

we all need to remember one thing. these days, we're ALL only a single keystroke away from the other side of this subject.
