George has always been something of an embarrassment to philosophy that is why he is a journalist. Go read the four dialogues of Plato concerning the Trial and death of Socrates. He questioned ALL of the fundamental values of his society, all of the traditional ones, and was executed for so doing. Conservatives might be more at home in the Republic . I suspect that Plato and his hero Socrates would despise American conservatism precisely because of their unquestioned beliefs that they foist upon posterity as "traditional values"---old prejudices masquerading as truths. I'm sure they would tick off dogmatic liberals as well.
I suppose conservatives may well be happier---it is so much easier not to think.
