You really think the individual voter will base his decision on thoughts like "I don't like that song, but for economic reasons I will vote for them?"
More like "I don't really care what song it is, but Uncle Bilan lives there, so I'll vote them."
The biggest finding from your numbers is that Russia would have come

1st. That says it all. I actually think the Greek entry was a better song - and your analysis shows it would have won without the Balkanized political voting. Sweden should have done better too. How the hell Spain got anywhere near the top 10 is a mystery to any sane man who saw the performance.
Frankly, I don't know why I'm that bothered. Perhaps I just like my comedy to be performed on a level stage. British sense of fair play, I guess.

BTW, I have a sneaking suspicion that if the UK entry had been sung by a white man, it would have been better received in Eastern Europe. I've heard the reception black players get in Eastern European countries in football.
And while we are talking about unfair politics: Unlike all other countries, UK, Spain, France & Germany didn't even have to go through the semi-finals. These were the only countries with a guaranteed place in the finals. Only because of big money, not song quality. Hardly fair.
Hardly fair to bank roll the event but not take part? How about all countries contribute equally? Somehow I doubt Azerbaijan will cough up the cash to be honest.
