Actually they did, just not the same way. Russia fell out of the fight when Hitlers panzer divisions crossed the main Russian city, so if they is another word for that please speak up. Its not conquered like Russia is theirs, need new word rather then conquered.  Thats all.  :)

'Invaded' works. 'Conquered' implies that the USSR was defeated, but it was not.
