There you go!

Starting to smoke at your age and with all the knowledge we have in 2008 is really daft. :)

In Texas, we'd say it was "queer" or "oklahoma-like" but never "daft".  :)

Good for you. I think you really have to decide to quit on your own to be successful. Being badgered into it doesn't seem to work. After a week, you'll really start to feel the difference. If you don't exercise (vigorously) regularly, now would be a great time to start. Good luck!

Click.....puff puff. Well another one done in by over taxation by the supposed righteous wing. :( I applaud your decision but not the reasoning behind it as far a price goes. Do the research and see what the taxes on smokes is paying for. Now lets say everyone in america just stops and that money is now gone. What are they going after next? They have to replace that money because you know politicians ain't letting go of that type of cash! I'm thinking beer and hard liquor is next after smokes so i hope you all are cutting back now. Hmmm come to think of it a tax on any type of internet transaction might make a fortune?! :devil

I hope you succeed and i'll be trying to quit myself here shortly but not because of money/price, but because of cancer issues in my family. I'm switching to a pipe, then doing the patch deal, as that's how my 2 brothers quit. They smoked a pipe for 2 months, then patch/pipe for 1 month, then just the patch. 4th month nothing and they said they had little problem after that. Of course your appetite comes back so now they both need to lose weight. :)

As I stated earlier it wasn't only because of price, it was because I was too damn lazy to leave my house to get some more.  Also, I stated my mother's lifetime habit that eventually caught up to her and led to her passing away last October.  Thirdly, was because of money.  My C-HOG likes her 93 octane and this is just one of a couple ways to help feed her need for top-shelf go-juice.

Over 48 hours into it and it feels remarkably normal.  In other words, I have no over-whelming need to run 10 miles to the convenience store and buy me a pack.  So far the amazing thing is I can smell things I couldn't before (damn cats!) and taste things more completely now.  After only 2 days into it.  I wonder what 2 weeks into it is going to be like.  Thanks for the platitudes fellas, I won't let you down.

wtg on 48  :aok

Smell and taste are both things that will improve fast. In a few days you will actually find that alot of things around you stink so you will prolly wash all your clothing and your dwelling. I now think smokers stink and have to wash my clothes if i have been around smokers. How the missus could live with that smell for so long is beyond me.

Just be prepared that you might get a slap in the face soon. I found my first week pretty easy, but then it hit me. Just so you know that you might get the same and is prepared for it.

again.. WTG! you can do it  :)

That is about how I quit Diablo.

Smoked my last cigarette in the pack one Friday morning, didn't feel like going to the store to get more.   Still had some Nicorette gum laying around, started chewing that.  Like your lozenges, it wasn't as bad as I remembered :).  Made it about a week on the gum before I ran out, went to go by more.  At that point it kind of hit me that I had quit smoking - now I just needed to break the nicotine habit.  Started chewing regular gum instead after about 6 weeks or 2 months (don't really remember).

I quit just about three years ago... rarely want to smoke now (maybe one craving every few months).

Good luck.  Remember, if you want to quit, it is easy to do it.  And if you end up going back to it, you didn't want to quit anyway, so no harm done :).

Just over 72 hours now.  I've only used one lozenge today and I am sort of feeling it, that deep within your chest aching.  My food intake is about the same, maybe even a little less.  Tonight my wife and I go to the annual Lunar Rendesvous cocktails & movie party where the key note speaker will be none other than Gene Kranz, Flight Director extrordinaire and longtime personal hero.  It will be my first time consuming alcohol without smokes.

BTW-I just finished reading "Failure Is Not An Option", Gene Kranz's autobiography and I highly recommend it.  Double irony, yes?

Nilsen thinks he can brainwash me in my fragile state with liberal gobbletygook.  He thinks a Prius will be parked in my driveway soon and that I will vote for the Prodigal Son from Illinois, Sen. Hussein Osama-bama.

C-HOG 'til death!
