I have to disagree TXMom!

I do the .sr command and see 7 of my squaddies are in Orange (for example) and the cap is 325/200. Why should I as a subscription paying member of the AH community have my choice limited by a totally artificial and seemingly arbitrary arena cap? There might be a REASON that the underpopulated map has no players... maybe the players are tired of seeing that ****** Baltic (for example) map for the third time in succession, or the knights have an ENY of 29... IMHO, HTC should let the marketplace decide.

It is on HTC to provide an incentive to go into the least popular arena.

The idea of a penalty system (read that ARENA CAP) is backward, when a reward system might get better results. An example of a reward system (off the top of my head) might be to  have a triple perk point multiplier or make ME-262's cost 25 points across the board.

My 2 cents: The current CAP system is terrible for whatever reason it exists and a better system of balancing HTCs server load needs to be found.

So if the same conditions occurred (squaddies in a "capped" arena) and those incentives were in place ... would you then not be upset to fly in the "uncapped" arena ?

Well, start at the beginning.  People are arguing for or against the split.  Why was it put in place and has it accomplished?  Not talking about the AW and MW.  That I like.  But what exactly did the split of the MA accomplished other than losing a few big maps?  Is it really better now?  If not, let it be Tuesday every day

Slapshot I apologize if it seems like I was accusing you of flaming. Ice seen a lot of it here and thouht that it was on the way. I also apologize if it seemed my attitude was mean. I understand text isn't the greatest medium to have dialogue as well. I really just see a lot of these posts getting the third degree and was hoping for once a real solution could be found with more than just my ideas as more heads thinking about it without trashing eachother might have a good outcome. I love this game and how its ran as a community. Seems like games bought from a box do not have this kind of fun in the package at all. Won't be on the bbs for a couple days. Hope you and I are square with the house. >

Personally ... I like the 2 LW arenas.

When I do fly in an LW arena ... I always end up going into the Blue arena due to its low numbers. Reason being is that you don't have to wrangle with 5-10 other friendlies over 1 enemy con.

The problem, as I see it, is when the Blue Arena is reset causing the Orange cap to drop like a rock.

An example (don't get picky over the numbers that I use here) ...

Orange is 250/320

Blue is 150/220

Blue is reset ... people log in and see ...

Orange is 250/100

Blue is 12/100

Now they are pissed because there is absolutely no chance of getting into Orange ... even if some were to log out of Orange ... unless Blue starts to fill up quickly, which is usually not the case.

Why not make the max cap the exact same number as the population that was in there when Blue reset.

We need 2 variables ...

O-CAP and it would be set to 250 at reset <--- this is the actual cap for the arena
O-WORKCAP is set to 100

So you would see ...

Orange 250/250

Blue 12/100

Now if 10 people logged out you would see ...

Orange 240/250 ... allowing 10 additional people to login

Blue 12/100

Current logic ... as any LW arena starts to fill, when it hits a particular percentage of being full it would add to the other arena's "cap".

So, had Orange been changed (as it is now) to 250/100 and Blue hit a certain particular percentage of being full the cap (O-CAP) would be changed to 120.

Now ... if we used what I proposed above ...

Orange sits at 250/250 ... and Blue starts to fill and the balancing code does this ...

O-WORKCAP + 20 (100 + 20)

If O-WORKCAP (120) is less than or equal to O-CAP (250) then don't touch O-CAP

else O-CAP equals O-WORKCAP.

This would, at least, allow people to move in and out of the Orange arena within the 250 cap number that was set for Orange, when Blue reset.

Mind you ... this would only take place when there is a reset ... outside of that, the current balancing logic rules.
